About the opportunity

The Homeward Mortgage Team is responsible for conducting the financial review and approval of every customer that works with Homeward and/or Homeward Mortgage. We're focused on bringing financial innovations to life and delivering a seamlessly integrated mortgage experience. We are the newest team at Homeward and are looking for subject matter experts and business people with an entrepreneur's mindset and ability to get stuff done.

Our operations team is growing rapidly at Homeward Mortgage! We're hiring a seasoned Vice President of Mortgage Operations to oversee our Mortgage Transactions and Credit risk teams consisting of Processors, Underwriters, Closers, Disclosure Specialists, Appraisal Specialists and more in the US and India. You will lead the Director level mortgage operations team to drive production and mitigate risk while aligning department outputs with company goals. You will also collaborate cross functionally with Homeward Title and Homeward Inc to strategize and develop customer driven systems, products and workflows to help revolutionize the home buying process.

As the VP of Mortgage Operations, you will report into the SVP of Operations and collaborate closely with the VP of Mortgage Sales and VP of Secondary Markets to ensure the ongoing success of Homeward Mortgage.

In this role you will

  • Lead the optimization of the mortgage operations team
  • Scale and develop efficient mortgage operations teams in the US and India
  • Oversee the ongoing transition to become a 100% delegated lender
  • Lead and develop a team of Mortgage operations directors, supporting them in skill and leadership growth
  • Support in the initiative to become a direct seller to Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, HUD, and VA
  • Oversee audits from investors and state regulators
  • Ensure all NMLS licensing requirements are met and maintained for Homeward Mortgage
  • Establish reporting that identifies trends to provide recommendations to senior mortgage management regarding opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity, and customer experience
  • Own the design and iteration of standard operating procedures, policies, and service level agreements across all key operational functions, including processing, underwriting, closing, and credit risk teams, ensuring highly efficient and highly accurate output
  • Promote high quality performance by developing and clearly outlining the expectations of the team
  • Evaluate and manage the best vendors and partners to provide critical services throughout the loan origination process, including credit, fraud, appraisal, flood, verifications, etc.
  • Manage the Homeward Mortgage credit policy based on investor and regulatory guidelines, including overseeing loan-level exceptions
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and mortgage tech teams to optimize systems to automate and streamline workflows
  • Collaborate with Secondary Markets to develop competitive mortgage product mixes and pricing
  • Collaborate with the Sales team to create an exceptional customer experience for our buyers and agents
  • Maintain a sound knowledge of secondary marketing activity, investor guidelines, and industry practices, and make appropriate adjustments to processes, systems, and personnel

What you'll bring

  • 10+ years of residential mortgage experience, 5+ years in senior level leadership
  • Start up and traditional mortgage experience preferred
  • Strong compliance background with experience submitting required HMDA and NMLS reporting.
  • Extensive knowledge in FNMA, FHLMC, VA, FHA, and Jumbo loans
  • Experience building, scaling, and overseeing large teams in the US and offshores
  • Experience supporting or overseeing transition from broker to non-delegated to delegated
  • Experience supporting the process to obtain seller approval with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac preferred
  • Experience supporting the process to obtain seller approval with HUD and VA preferred
  • Experience developing and implementing new products
  • Experience implementing and optimizing LOS, POS, and CRMs (extensive Encompass experience required, Blend and Salesforce experience preferred)
  • Experience working with and selling to multiple loan investors with varying guidelines
  • Experience supporting or running point on regulatory audits
  • Very strong verbal and written communicator, leadership presence
  • High bar for operational precision, and very organized
  • Strong preference for data led decision making and aptitude for analysis design (supported by Biz Analytics team)
  • Calm, and able to context switch between a dozen "top" priorities daily
  • Strong performance manager - able to develop a leadership team, and manage a tight ship

Pay and benefits

  • Compensation range: $150,000 - $190,000
  • Remote-first environment (our Headquarters are in Austin, TX, come visit!)
