SALARY RANGE: $14.99 - $20.05 per hour
*This is a part-time as-needed position, and no set schedule can be promised. The incumbent may be called upon with usually seven days’ notice that there is a need for shift coverage and offered the work.*
PURPOSE:
The Watch Force supports ORAU Safeguards & Security (S&S) by providing an unarmed physical presence on the ORAU Oak Ridge campuses. The Watch Force’s primary objective is the protection of S&S interests to include security interests, employees/contractor staff safety, and the general protection of life and property. Watch Force (WF) Guards enhance the safety and security of persons and property through active patrolling of buildings, grounds, and other property, and providing escorts to personnel during hours of darkness upon request. WF Guards respond to and assess security-related concerns reported by employees, in response to reported alarm activations, and through active surveillance. WF Guards also engage in other activities as assigned (e.g., performance tests, coverage for visitor control representative, physical access control, policy/procedure revision, escorting visitors, assessing facilities and weather conditions).
Responsibilities:
- Provides surveillance for Oak Ridge Associated Universities/Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORAU/ORISE) facilities to guard against and report theft, vandalism, fire, equipment malfunction, alarm activation, and unauthorized persons. When incidents occur, notifies the proper responding authority.
- Checks all exterior doors, windows, gates, and locks to ensure that they are secure. Checks controlled areas, limited areas, material balance areas (LA, MBAs), and sensitive equipment storage areas to ensure that they are secure.
- Responds to and assesses intrusion alarms for controlled areas and other alarms/alerts.

Investigates any suspicious vehicles or persons on ORAU/ORISE site. Escorts unauthorized persons from the site and advises trespassers. Contacts local police department for response/assistance as necessary.

Contacts appropriate on-call maintenance personnel as needed for repairs of buildings/facilities/equipment or emergency alarms.

Prepares special incident reports by supplying all pertinent details surrounding any incidents or maintenance items that require attention.

Conducts limited-scope performance tests including badge checks and searches of hand carried items, security equipment testing, and key inventories. Implements additional measures as required by heightened security conditions.
Qualifications:
High school diploma and 1-2 years of job-related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience performing duties as described may be substituted for the minimum requirements.

Must be amenable to work as needed with no predetermined schedule or frequency.

Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience enforcing policies/procedures with law enforcement, public or private sector organization, or similar.

Must have a current and valid Tennessee driver’s license with no major traffic violations.

Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a Tennessee Unarmed Guard License.

Must have a background which would not preclude a security clearance granted.

Must be able to operate a government-owned vehicle safely.

Must be able to perform walkthroughs of all facilities at least twice each shift (5+miles per shift).

Must be able to utilize company-issued iPhone for communication and alerts.

Must be familiar with Microsoft Outlook and Internet Explorer to access email, complete browser-based reports, and access relevant information to complete routine job tasks.

Must be able to assess situations to determine risk to self or others.

Must be able to document identified issues and corrective actions in incident reports.

Knowledge of security systems and equipment in a business environment is preferred.
The candidate’s starting salary will be determined upon hire and ORAU will use salary survey data, internal comparators, and the candidate’s qualifications to determine salary.
