Web Designer

An integral part of the Marketing & Communications team, the web developer provides technical leadership and expertise to develop front-end web pages and back-end systems for Enrollment Management. This position will report to the director of marketing and communications, but will work in concert with colleagues in the Office of Admissions, Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid, Office of the Registrar, and the Office of Orientation & Transition in addition to the larger campus web community. The ideal candidate will have strong technical, organizational and communication skills, and a passion for user-centered technology.

The successful candidate will have experience in HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. Additionally, this team member will thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment and bring a proactive work style with the ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality web pages that communicate timely and important Enrollment Management information. Provides ongoing maintenance to existing sites and web pages and creates new ones as needed.
  • Seeks input and guidance from subject matter experts across Enrollment Management to create and update web content.
  • Ensures all sites and pages adhere to university branding and style standards, including · Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) web accessibility requirements.
  • Creates and nurtures cooperative working relationships with colleagues involved in the production process, including Enrollment Management, University Marketing and Communications, and any external agencies and vendors.
  • Monitor behavior of web audiences and provide insights and recommendations to optimize the digital experience and increase engagement.
  • Stays current on digital trends and best practices to ensure web properties remain current and function properly.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). 2-4 years of experience in web design or a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a the web design field.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences
  • Strong knowledge of web development, including HTML, JavaScript and CSS.
  • Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of WordPress, including website updates, deployments, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve common issues.
  • Experience with Google Analytics and Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
  • Literate with graphic and visual design principles.
  • Good understanding of content management systems.
  • Understands UI/UX and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (example, Git).
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly-motivated with demonstrated ability to identify opportunities and find creative solutions to challenges.
  • Possess a data driven approach that is process oriented with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience creating and maintaining web properties that reach large and diverse audiences.
  • Experience working in large-complex organizations.
