Android Engineer I (Member Experience)

WHOOP is seeking an Android Engineer I specializing in Android development to contribute to our mission of delivering exceptional experiences to our members. In this role, you will collaborate with a team of talented engineers to build and optimize our Android application, ensuring a seamless and engaging user experience. This position is perfect for an engineer eager to grow their skills while making a measurable impact on the lives of WHOOP members.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop, test, and maintain new and existing features for the WHOOP Android application
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, design, and QA, to deliver high-quality software on time
  • Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code, adhering to industry best practices and WHOOP’s standards
  • Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers and ensuring code quality
  • Debug and resolve issues, continuously improving application performance and stabilityStay current with the latest Android development tools, trends, and technologies to inform and enhance WHOOP’s Android application


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in Kotlin and/or Java with prior experience developing Android applications
  • Familiarity with Android development tools and frameworks such as Android Studio, Jetpack, and Gradle
  • Experience with RESTful APIs and integrating third-party libraries
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Passion for learning and adapting to new technologies and development practices
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a team-oriented mindset
  • Preferred: Knowledge of Bluetooth and experience working with hardware or wearables
  • Preferred: Familiarity with MVVM architecture and dependency injection frameworks such as Dagger or Hilt
  • Preferred: Experience with Agile development methodologiesPreferred: Understanding of accessibility best practices for mobile applications

This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.
