Tech Lead & Business Ops (Digital Nomad Job)

Note from Diego, WiFi Tribe Founder:

I invited 7 internet strangers to spend a month living and working in my childhood home in Bolivia.

It was never meant to be a “business”. Just a group of friends traveling the world together.

It’s been 8 wild years…

Since that first trip, we’ve brought 2,500 nomads together in 80 cities to colive and cowork around the world, one month at a time.

Our work has sparked thousands of lifelong friendships, countless perspective-shifting conversations, hundreds of startup projects and career shifts, so many new romances, lots of weddings, a few babies, and an unimaginable amount of core memories.

What we do changes lives.

Not a little, but a lot and in every way you can think of.

If this excites you, keep reading to see if this might be the most perfect job ever created for you.

What is WiFi Tribe?

We believe that life wasn’t meant to be lived in just one place. That your best work can be done from anywhere. And, that everything is better when you have great people by your side.

We bring together great people from around the world to help them overcome the loneliness of solo travel, find true community wherever they go, and make their biggest travel dreams a reality, together.

We connect our members through:

40 coliving/coworking retreats in exciting destinations,

a Slack community where members share advice and support each other, and

an exclusive app that helps members meet in-person anywhere in the world, and plan their next big adventure together.

WiFi Tribe is THE vetted global community for remote professionals who seek growth and long-lasting travel connections.

YOUR Mission:

The Tribe needs a lot of tech and business operations to connect so many people around the world.

We’re looking for a Tech Lead & Business Ops to take charge of our technology stack and help us keep the day-to-day of the company operating smoothly.

You will be the centre-point for the tools that power our community. You’ll help scale our operations by enhancing our booking systems, integrating external services, and automating workflows. This role is perfect for a hands-on tech leader with a passion for building impactful systems and a knack for solving complex challenges.

Your work will directly shape the experience of thousands of members, empowering them to live, work, and explore the world together.

Who We Are (Our Culture)

  • We’re obsessed with this community. We have all chosen to join the team, first and foremost, because we love this community; a place where remarkable people from all over the world meet and shape their ideal lives together.
  • We’re a tight-knit team. We look out for one another, cheer each other on, and celebrate every win. We’re fully remote, and always bouncing around the world, but take every chance to meet up in person.
  • We’re as diverse as the United Nations. Our team of 13 represents 10 different nationalities! Many of us have become permanently nomadic global citizens, as we travel the world side-by-side with our members.
  • We’re small but mighty. Our small size is our strength. It helps us stay agile, creative, and united in the camaraderie of achieving our mission. We’re nifty, we’re inventive and we don’t give up.
  • We show courage. We don’t compromise when it comes to our values, our mission, or who we are. Every member of our team has the courage to stand up for what they believe in and challenge bad ideas. We know that doing the right thing always pays off in the end.
  • We care. We take full ownership of our work because we take pride in everything we do. We care about how we show up and who or what we’re becoming. And of course, we care about our teammates and our community members.
  • We’re explorers at heart. We’re curious and adaptable, which is why each of us chose to take on this crazy challenge of building a global community and a startup at the same time. Everyone on the team has lived, worked, and travelled with the Tribe for at least a month – some of us for years. Joining this team means embarking on the biggest adventure of your career.
  • We lead with humility. We don’t compete for titles or status; we’re driven by passion for our mission and love for our work. There is no space for big egos here. But, we take pride in our work and in becoming great at what we do.

Who You Are (Traits)

We’re seeking a builder who is also a thinker—someone who thrives in a fast-paced, iterative environment and can bring a product-oriented mindset to the table.

  • You thrive under pressure and can juggle multiple priorities without breaking a sweat.
  • You’re a meticulous problem solver who never lets anything slip through the cracks. You analyse data and try to understand the root cause following the first-principle thinking methodology.
  • You’re strategic and organised and love creating systems that empower teams to do their best work.
  • You’re a self-starter who takes ownership of projects from start to finish and delivers results.
  • A collaborative mindset with excellent communication skills in a remote-first environment.
  • You embrace rapid iteration and short-release cycles for customer-facing and internal tools.
  • You are pragmatic and balance the trade-offs between building in-house tools and integrating external services.
  • You are passionate about the user experience and product-driven, and you understand and deliver intuitive, user-friendly designs.

What You’ve Done (Qualifications)

  • Experience with payment integrations and CRM platforms to streamline workflows and optimise business processes.
  • Experience integrating external APIs and services: Proven ability to connect and manage third-party tools to enhance functionality and performance.
  • 2+ years of server administration and management: Proficient in maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimising server environments.
  • 2+ years of experience with database management: Strong knowledge of relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL.
  • Hands-on experience running custom web applications: Demonstrated ability to manage and maintain live applications, ensuring stability and performance.

Ideal Skills/Background (But Not Required)

  • 2+ years of experience with Docker or Kubernetes: Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration concepts.
  • Experience with low code and automation tools: Familiarity with tools such as Zapier and experience in utilising such tools to build integrations or apps.
  • Understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript: General knowledge of web technologies to support collaboration with development teams.
  • Experience with web application development workflows: Preferably with exposure to Python, Django, and PostgreSQL environments.
  • Knowledge of SysOps/DevOps practices: Awareness of best practices for system operations and infrastructure automation.
  • Experience with data analysis and business intelligence reporting: Experience in data analysis and using tools such as Tableau, Metabase or advanced spreadsheet formulae.
  • Experience with remote work or digital nomad culture: Comfortable working in distributed teams and understanding the nuances of remote collaboration.

Things You Might Do Here (Responsibilities)

  • Partner with operations, marketing, and other teams to identify areas for workflow automation and implement solutions.
