ORGANIZATION SUMMARY

World Relief is a global Christian humanitarian organization whose mission is to boldly engage the world’s greatest crises in partnership with the church. The organization was founded in the aftermath of World War II to respond to the urgent humanitarian needs of war-torn Europe. Since then, for 80 years, across 100 countries, World Relief has partnered with local churches and communities to build a world where families thrive and communities flourish.


Today, organizational programming focuses on humanitarian and disaster response, community strengthening and resilience, and refugee & immigrant services and advocacy.

 


The Resettlement Caseworker is responsible for guiding newly arrived refugees and other qualifying immigrants through the initial resettlement period, which focuses on creating stability, developing self-sufficiency plans through a realistic and strengths-based approach, and actively providing appropriate services, enrollments, and referrals based on client need, strengths, and goals. This role ensures families feel welcome, are informed of what to expect in their first 90 days and beyond and are connected to critical services in Sacramento County. This position operates within grant-funded programs, requiring specific services to be provided within set timeframes and appropriate documentation of all activities through case management. The role is part of a larger integration team and is responsible for the success of their assigned cases, as determined by the client experience, program outcomes, timeliness and accuracy of reporting, and collaboration with colleagues.


ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Assess participant needs, strengths, and goals and then establish comprehensive action plans with short and long-term goals 
  • Provide necessary support for participants during the active enrollment period (~90 days). Support includes, but is not limited to:   
  • Completing pre-arrival preparations, such as locating and securing suitable housing, purchasing housing essentials, furniture and basic food supplies, setting up utilities, etc, in accordance with R&P Cooperative agreement and in collaboration with the Housing Specialist,   
  • Requesting and providing direct assistance, via donated goods and financial assistance   
  • Conduct regular, re-occurring meetings, including multiple home visits, with clients to ensure progress on goals and to provide appropriate connections to resources, including transportation assistance, childcare, and education programs   
  • Scheduling and ensuring successful appointments with Social Security, Department of Human Assistance, employment service providers, and any other required or beneficial public service   
  • Coordinating with the Refugee Health Clinic to schedule initial appointments and ensuring timely arrival to health care appointments 
  •  Organizing and completing school enrollment for all school-aged children 
  •  Planning and/or providing Cultural Orientation and related assessments   
  • Providing and arranging transportation as needed to required appointments   
  • Connecting participants to English Language Training, Employment Service providers, and other financial, medical, vocational, and community resources in compliance with program guidelines   
  • Document participant services and activities thoroughly and in a timely manner in accordance with program and World Relief Sacramento requirements 
  •  Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant casefiles 
  •   Update and maintain client information in protected, online databases (Dynamics, Teams, etc.) 
  •  Achieve grant requirements and deliverables through timely, high-quality services   
  • Participate in on-going training to improve service delivery and ensure compliance   
  • Review and regularly present the status and progress of each case to supervisor and/or manager 
  •  Collaborate successfully across World Relief Sacramento staff and departments, as well as with external service providers to ensure holistic case management   
  • Attend meetings as instructed by supervisor 
  •  Other duties as assigned 


JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Mature and personal Christian faith
  • Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
  • Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
  • Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Evangelicals For the Health of The Nation document
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field of study; or equivalent work experience   
  • Willingness to occasionally provide services outside of normal work hours (evenings and weekends)   
  • Cross-cultural experience 
  •  Must have access to a reliable, private vehicle and insurance that can be used for local travel and transportation of clients.   


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Alignment with WRS core values of serve, drive, care   
  • Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment   
  • Familiarity with Sacramento area social service providers strongly preferred   
  • Ability to speak clearly and comfortably on the phone with partners and participants, which include people with limited English abilities and/or the use of interpreters   
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office applications   
  • Proven ability to utilize digital communication tools, such as Zoom, TEAMS, and other platforms   
  • Ability to work as part of a team and support program-specific volunteers and interns   
  • Proven success achieving goals and working effectively with all levels of staff in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment; 
  •  Self- starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively 
  •  Highly self-motivated and comfortable working independently towards case-specific, department, and office-wide goals   
  • Strong communication skills, with fluency in written and spoken English; bilingual in Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Russian, Ukrainian, or other languages preferred. 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations    The ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-15 pounds.    Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application information.    The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. 


$23 - $27.50 an hour
Compensation is commensurate with experience.
