As the Director of Engineering for the Infrastructure Engineering group, you are responsible for leading several multidisciplinary teams building, supporting and evolving Zapier’s infrastructure, services, and developer tools. You will work closely with your managers, peers, and executives to staff teams and execute on a multifaceted infrastructure strategy.
We know applying for and taking on a new job at any company requires a leap of faith. We want you to feel comfortable and excited to apply at Zapier. To help share a bit more about life at Zapier, here are a few resources in addition to the job description that can give you an inside look at what life is like at Zapier. Hopefully, you'll take the leap of faith and apply.
Zapier is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace dedicated to pursuing and hiring a diverse workforce.
Even though our job description may seem like we're looking for a specific candidate, the role inevitably ends up tailored to the person who applies and joins. Regardless of how well you feel you fit our description, we encourage you to apply if you meet these criteria:
You are customer-focused. You have a track record of deeply understanding your customers, partners, and stakeholders. You have a passion for building products, services, and platforms that enable your customers and stakeholders to be more productive. You’re empathetic to the expectations of our customers and the needs of our developers.
You’ve managed and scaled infrastructure engineering and shared services organizations. You’re a skilled and experienced engineering leader who has built teams working on the infrastructure and services that drive SaaS-based products with modern tech stacks. You understand how to build scalable, maintainable, and resilient cloud architecture. You have experience working with external vendors and planning infrastructure spending. You’ve managed teams of managers and technical leaders and helped each manager, team, and leader be successful. You and your infrastructure teams understand the tradeoffs between a monolithic web platform and a services-based architecture.
You understand how the platform enables product development. You are experienced in understanding the complexities and nuances of infrastructure and shared services development, including the business implications of infrastructure decisions. You’ve driven the complex and challenging tradeoffs between speed, cost, and functionality when building and supporting a platform in one or more fast-moving companies. You have deep experience in managing complex projects with a variety of Agile tools in your toolbelt.
You can create, evangelize and execute your vision of production engineering. You can arrive at a vision that enables customers and internal developers, and communicate that vision to your team and stakeholders throughout engineering and the broader organization. You can drive the implementation of the vision and get results. You learn from others and continuously adapt the production engineering and service ownership vision to match the needs of the company.
You are a skilled mentor and coach. You have a passion and a track record of mentoring engineers and leaders while at the same time growing your own skills. You realize the best way to grow a team is by helping them to grow themselves. You're able to effectively share your experience and provide a clear framework for growth.
You're a skilled communicator. Zapier is a 100% remote team and writing is our primary means of communication, but you recognize when other mediums may be more effective. You'll lean on all of these tools to communicate vision, strategy, plans, findings, and results to the engineering and full Zapier team.
You're a champion for doing things efficiently. At Zapier, the work you do will have a disproportionate impact on the business. We believe in systems and processes that let us scale our impact to be larger than ourselves.
At Zapier, we believe that diverse perspectives and experiences make us better, which is why we have a non-standard application process designed to promote inclusion and equity. We're looking for the best fit for each of our roles, regardless of the type of companies in your background, so we encourage you to apply even if your skills and experiences don’t exactly match the job description. All we ask is that you answer a few in-depth questions in our application that would typically be asked at the start of an interview process. This helps speed things up by letting us get to know you and your skillset a bit better right out of the gate. Please be sure to answer each question; the resume and CV fields are optional.
Education is not a requirement for our roles; however, if you receive an offer, you will need to include your most recent educational experience as part of our background check process.
After you apply, you are going to hear back from us—even if we don’t see an immediate fit with our team. In fact, throughout the process, we strive to never go more than seven days without letting you know the status of your application. We know we’ll make mistakes from time to time, so if you ever have questions about where you stand or about the process, just ask your recruiter!
Zapier is an equal-opportunity employer and we're excited to work with talented and empathetic people of all identities. Zapier does not discriminate based on someone's identity in any aspect of hiring or employment as required by law and in line with our commitment to Diversity, Inclusion, Belonging and Equity. Our code of conduct provides a beacon for the kind of company we strive to be, and we celebrate our differences because those differences are what allow us to make a product that serves a global user base. Zapier will consider all qualified applicants, including those with criminal histories, consistent with applicable laws.
Zapier is committed to inclusion. As part of this commitment, Zapier welcomes applications from individuals with disabilities and will work to provide reasonable accommodations. If reasonable accommodations are needed to participate in the job application or interview process, please contact jobs@zapier.com.
The anticipated application window is 30 days from the date job is posted, unless the number of applicants requires it to close sooner or later, or if the position is filled.
Even though we’re an all-remote company, we still need to be thoughtful about where we have Zapiens working. Check out this resource for a list of countries where we currently cannot have Zapiens permanently working.
