Job Description

Our award-winning AECOM Sports and Venues practice is seeking Interns for Architectural and Interior roles for summer 2025 employment based in either of our three offices, located in Kansas City, MO, Los Angeles, CA, and New York, NY. The candidates may be tasked to work on interdisciplinary projects with a focus on Sports, and Public Assembly, including professional and collegiate arenas, stadia and coliseums, and recreation centers. 

Our Sports practice is an established leader in the market with over three decades of success. This studio-sized practice focuses its work on everything from performance and development facilities to primary competition venues, ranging anywhere from small collegiate clients to the largest of professional leagues and franchises.  We look to combine beauty, sustainability, resiliency, equity, and innovation in our projects and believe these values can be instilled in any project regardless of size or budget.

Under the AECOM Buildings + Places business line, we embody the spirit of a nimble, fully integrated design firm within a fully global infrastructure organization. Services include architecture, interiors, building and system engineering, urbanism, planning (inclusive of landscape design), strategy +, economics, technology solutions, asset advisory, and cost and program management.  This diverse team assists our clients from strategy through project realization, creating positive outcomes for those who occupy and use the buildings and environments we help to create.

Position Overview:

Working closely with the Sports Studio Leader and our Innovation Director, you'll work with talented teams of architects, championing creative solutions that redefine spaces, enhance communities, and align with our commitment to innovation and sustainability. Your leadership and design acumen will shape projects that resonate with clients, inspire our teams, and leave a lasting positive impact.

The responsibilities of this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the preparation of designs, quantity calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings.
  • Use computer software as a tool for solving basic architectural problems.
  • Maintain conformance with building standards, established architectural practices, and applicable building codes.
  • Work under the supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
  • Must be proficient in all the latest architectural and graphic design software platforms.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:    

  • Candidates must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in architecture or interior design or other related field and must have completed at least one year of study.
  • Candidates who have recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions.  Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship 
  • Must be willing to work in Kansas City, New York, and/or Los Angeles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with BIM-Revit, AutoCAD, or other related CADD software.
  •  Experience in the use of computers for making architectural drawings, calculations, and 3-D visual simulations.
  • A university student who has more than one year of school remaining before earning a degree is preferred, these students typically are Freshmen, Sophomores, or Juniors in university
  • Successful Interns may be eligible to return for additional internships
  • An ability to work collaboratively as a team player with both junior staff and senior leadership.
