Business Development Manager, Cartilage, Northeast (US - Remote)

The Cartilage Business Development Manager is responsible for exceeding sales/case volume objectives and growing the Sports Medicine Biologics business, specifically the cartilage repair portfolio, within their assigned Area, by driving increased usage and new customer conversions. Reporting to a Director of Sales, the Cartilage Business Development Manager, requires the ability to assimilate and deliver a high level of technical information as it relates to Biologics products. This role also serves as a leader of Biologics for sports medicine in the capacity of product matter expert, trainer, and mentor to other sales personnel (BAM, BAR, ASRs, ESRs).

What will you be doing?

Sales Execution/Surgical Support - 70%

  • Meeting / exceeding assigned sales quota for assigned products in cartilage repair products

  • Drive product growth across current/legacy customer base

  • New Customer Acquisition - Uncover all Biologics opportunities within assigned territory.

  • Provide surgical support including case coverage, HCP training, facility in-service and inventory management/logistics

  • Deliver accurate monthly and quarterly Biologics forecasts to DOS

  • Represent the cartilage portfolio at select industry events/society conferences

  • Collaborate with DOS and Medical Education on a targeted surgeon education plan for targeted market events

Collaboration - 20%

  • Network and work closely with all S+N counterparts in Area to maximize Biologics opportunities

  • As product expert, deliver clear consistent communication with all SPMD counterparts

  • Act as content expert: possess a thorough knowledge of the portfolio and surgical techniques as well as competitive technologies/techniques; stay current on publications and clinical data

  • Quarterly business planning with your direct DOS and counterpart SPMD AVP

  • Weekly targeting calls at district/territory level to ensure driving efficient selling practices.

Administrative Task Through Clean Business Practices - 10%

  • Remain current on training modules

  • Be compliant with all expense reporting

  • Complete Workday objectives in a timely manner

  • Managing expenses within Region. Refer to S+N travel and expense policy for guidelines.

  • Expense reports to be submitted on time in accordance to policy

  • Complete required training and certifications on time

What will you need to be successful?

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s Degree required.  Degree in Business, Marketing, or Biology (or other medical-related major) strongly preferred.

  • Experience: 

    • A minimum of 6 years direct sales experience with 4 year experience within a medical/hospital environment preferred.  Cartilage experience strongly preferred

    • Experience in orthopedics (sports medicine or knee reconstruction) in hospital/ASC environments, including surgeons, nursing, administration, facilities, bio-med and information systems required.

  • Demonstrated success in achieving quota year over year.

  • Demonstrated success and proven skill set in complex sales; ability to sell to teams of buyers and multiple decision makers in a hospital/medical setting.

  • Travel Requirements:  50-70% to the following locations including, but not limited to (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Washington DC).

  • Candidates must live within the designated Northeast regional area.  

The anticipated base compensation range for this position is $60,000.00 - $100,000.00 USD annually. In addition to base pay, the candidate is eligible for sales commission, incentives and benefits, which include medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401k, tuition reimbursement, medical leave programs, and a variety of wellness offerings.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role at Smith + Nephew.  Compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.

All field sales and or marketing professionals that are required to gain entry into healthcare facilities to perform the basic remit of their role, must successfully complete our credentialling process, which often includes COVID 19 vaccine management.
