As a Manager, Cloud Software Engineer – Backend, you will lead a team of backend engineers responsible for building and maintaining TP-Link’s cloud services that support smart home and networking products. This role requires a hands-on leader with strong technical expertise and a passion for team development, architecture, and delivering scalable cloud solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of backend engineers, providing technical direction, mentorship, and career development.
  • Own the backend architecture for scalable, secure, and high-availability cloud services.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, frontend, mobile, QA, and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless integration and product delivery.
  • Drive design and implementation of microservices, APIs, and backend components supporting IoT platforms and connected devices.
  • Establish engineering best practices, including coding standards, code reviews, testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ensure strong observability, monitoring, and reliability of backend systems.
  • Act as a technical point of escalation, helping troubleshoot complex issues and unblock the team.
  • Participate in capacity planning, roadmapping, and sprint planning in collaboration with product and project managers.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies to continually improve systems and processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of backend development experience, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership or management role.
  • Proven expertise in backend languages such as Go, Java, Python, or equivalent.
  • Strong background in designing and operating cloud-native applications (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices, RESTful APIs, and event-driven architecture.
  • Experience working with Kubernetes, Docker, and container orchestration platforms.
  • Proficiency with SQL and NoSQL databases, and message queues such as Kafka, MQTT, or RabbitMQ.
  • Experience leading agile teams and working in fast-paced, collaborative environments.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with a track record of team success.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in IoT or connected device ecosystems.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD tools (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins), and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform).
  • Contributions to open-source or demonstrated engagement in technical communities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a strategic mindset with a hands-on approach.

Salary range: $200000- $220,000
