Job Description

Performs routine, intermediate, and advanced polysomnograms; records, analyzes, and interprets (scores) the multiple simultaneous physiologic measurements of sleep.

JOB DUTIES:

  1. Performs polysomnograms, split studies, CPAP Titration, multiple sleep latency testing on adults and pediatric populations.*
  2. Performs technical interpretations (scoring) of sleep disorder laboratory procedures by hand assessment and computer analysis.*
  3. Researches patients’ histories for neurological/psychiatric disorders.*
  4. Prepares patients and equipment for testing; explains procedures; measures patients’ heads; applies electrodes.*
  5. Edits and files tests performed; inputs to digital archive/structured report system.*
  6. Provides documentation for each procedure; maintains records.*
  7. Complies with quality assurance standards for the Sleep Disorder Laboratory.
  8. Records charges.
  9. Ensures accuracy in the medication process, including transport, storage, security, and/or administration of medications to include IV solutions.

  6. Performs related duties as assigned.

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to respond to specific issues and data reflective of the patient's status.  Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for the primary population of patients served in the department.

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED;

  • Two years of college level coursework including basic and advanced polysomnographic courses
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a health care field
  • At least six months of experience in a sleep disorders center or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency with various sleep disorders laboratory equipment and procedures. 
  • Registered or eligible to become registered as a polysomnographic technologist. 
  • Current CPR certification;
  • Certification in ACLS preferred. 
  • Graduate of a formal polysomnographic training program preferred.

This position requires a person who exhibits a positive attitude, excellent communication skills, the ability to work productively under stress, and who displays a professional demeanor and is able to prioritize workloads.  Must be willing to travel between facilities.
