The best company to work for, with some very small drawbacks

Pros

The first point of note is that my tenure here is over triple that of any previous company, and that should be enough in itself. The culture here is fantastic, and the potential for success, at least in terms of salary, is enormous. Work-life balance is excellent - I have the ability (as do all employees) to work three days per week from anywhere, and in my role, I have total autonomy over my location. Siemens will always put you, the employee, and your family first - they believe firmly that if you are well looked after, you will look after your duties. Siemens expects you to do your job well, but if you struggle, they will bend over backwards to support you (and have the resources in place to actually do this properly). Corporate responsibility is an important topic at Siemens, and protecting the environment is at the forefront of everyone's mind. There is a company EV car scheme, and we have aggressive net zero targets (2030 at the latest). Management builds strong and high-functioning relationships with their staff, or at least the ones I have had experience with (having had four different managers in my time, this is unlikely to be a coincidence). I have also attended several management training courses, which were highly effective and promoted the value of relationships. Becasue of the high-trust environment, management politics is kept to a minimum, and those who are prone to or enjoy political jostling often don't make it here. Overall, I feel I would find it very difficult to leave Siemens.

Cons

Possibly because of the 'Pros' mentioned above - people rarely leave Siemens, which contributes to one of the major cons - career advancement is relatively limited here. I have been doing the same job throughout my entire tenure. My immediate management layer has also stayed largely the same, indicating the same stagnation patterns there. As is likely with any corporation, there is a lot of red tape and processes to follow, which can consume a lot of non-value-added time; this is especially detrimental in a sales position, where as much time as possible should be toe-to-toe with our customers. I would also say that because of how successful we are, there is an element of risk aversion in the company. Higher risk opportunities with stronger returns are often avoided, whereas surefire wins are prioritised. This can make it challenging for business development people or new logo hunters. Although there is a high level of DEI emphasis at Siemens, including mandatory training for all employees, I would love to see more diversity in management roles (speaking as a white, middle-aged man!)
