About the team

We are a team of fun and skilled accounting professionals who enjoy working in a collaborative environment within an innovative, fast-paced tech and media company. We work directly with teams throughout the Finance organization (including Financial Reporting, Tax, Revenue, and FP&A), as well as operational business partners across various product lines. Specifically, our team is responsible for: Completing month-end close including preparing journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules, participating in the annual audit, state audits and quarterly reviews performed by auditors, including walkthroughs and the preparation of PBCs, accounting support for new products, finance integration of new activity, including the creation of new processes and GL close activities and ensuring SOX readiness.

About the role

Zillow Group is looking for a hard-working Accountant to join the Financial Products and Services Accounting Team, reporting directly to the Manager supporting Zillow Insurance and Closing Services. The ideal candidate has a can-do attitude and is dynamic, motivated, diligent and capable with the ability to:

  • Pivot, roll with change, and balance challenging deadlines
  • Work well within a team environment or independently
  • Think independently and raise questions and concerns
  • Grittily and thoughtfully complete work
  • Lead investigations into and prepare flux analysis for multiple product lines

Specifically, the role will:

  • Develop and/or improve processes to monitor, receive and post inbound funds, and ensure outgoing funds are released appropriately
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of policies, procedures, processes, tools, and reporting to ensure compliance
  • Identify and stay current on changes in industry regulations, and recommend updates to internal policies, procedures, policies, and systems based on new/changed requirements
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations as part of the month-end close process
  • Pursue optimization and automation of existing processes that are sustainable with rapid growth and new product launches
  • Investigate and prepare support for variance analysis
  • Champion cross-team relationships among Finance and other business partners
  • Own and operate SOX controls
  • Ad hoc assignments and special projects as required

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.

In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City and Washington the standard base pay range for this role is $60,100.00 - $95,900.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City and Washington and may not be applicable to other locations.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are

  • Strong Excel skills with an interest and curiosity about high growth industries
  • BA/BS with a concentration in Finance or Accounting, CPA preferred
  • 2+ years’ experience in public accounting, mid-to-large-sized tech, mortgage, insurance or title and escrow industry a plus
  • Knowledge of ASC 606 implementation and review
  • Audit or Internal Audit experience, desirable
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to actively participate in self-training and training others
  • Workday or other ERP experience, preferred
  • Manage month end close
  • Solid understanding of GAAP, preferred
  • Mortgage and Title industry knowledge with an emphasis in servicing or Insurance a plus
  • Excels in a fast paced and data driven organization
