We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced System Platform Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in virtualization technologies, VMware, Windows Server environments, and automation tools like Ansible. In addition, expertise in OpenShift Virtualization and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) is essential for this role. The System Platform Engineer will be responsible for the design, deployment, and management of our infrastructure platform, ensuring the availability, scalability, and performance of mission-critical systems. This person should be a seasoned, self-motivated, professional with at least 5 to 8 years of hands-on engineering and administration experience on the technology & products mentioned below.
Virtualization & VMware: Design, implement, and manage virtualized environments using VMware vSphere, VMware ESXi, and other related VMware technologies. Troubleshoot and optimize virtualized infrastructure to meet business requirements.
Windows Server Management: Configure, maintain, and support Windows Server environments (2016, 2019, 2022) across production and development platforms. Ensure high availability and performance of servers.
OpenShift Virtualization: Leverage OpenShift Virtualization to integrate virtual machines (VMs) into Kubernetes environments. Deploy and manage VMs within OpenShift for containerized applications and hybrid workloads.
Infrastructure Automation: Ansible is used to automate the configuration, deployment, and management of infrastructure. Implement best practices for automation and ensure repeatability and consistency across environments.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Utilize Infrastructure as Code principles to manage and provision infrastructure, including cloud and on-prem environments. Work with tools like Terraform, Ansible, or other IaC frameworks to automate infrastructure provisioning, scaling, and configuration.
Collaboration & Mentoring: Work closely with development, operations, and security teams to ensure the infrastructure aligns with organizational goals. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, ensuring high-quality engineering practices.
Monitoring & Optimization: Continuously monitor infrastructure performance, identify potential bottlenecks, and proactively resolve issues. Optimize system resources, troubleshoot hardware/software issues, and ensure high availability.
Documentation & Best Practices: Create and maintain clear, comprehensive documentation for platforms, configurations, processes, and operational procedures. Establish and enforce best practices for infrastructure management.
Responsible for managing Wintel, OpenShift, and VMWare environments.
Working and operating within a global support team reporting to AVP – Windows, Citrix & Virtualization.
Experience: 5-8+ years of experience in platform engineering, with a strong focus on virtualization, VMware, and Windows Server management.
VMware Expertise: Strong proficiency in VMware vSphere, VMware ESXi, vCenter, and related VMware tools.
Windows Server Management: Extensive experience with Windows Server environments, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
OpenShift Virtualization: Experience working with OpenShift Virtualization to integrate VMs in containerized environments.
Automation Tools: Proficiency with Ansible for configuration management and automation of infrastructure.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Hands-on experience with Terraform, Ansible, or other IaC tools for managing infrastructure provisioning.
Cloud & On-Prem Infrastructure: Familiarity with both cloud (Azure) and on-prem environments and how they interact with virtualization platforms. Experience with Azure Stack HCI is a bonus.
Scripting Skills: Strong scripting skills in Bash, PowerShell, or similar scripting languages for automation and infrastructure management.
Problem-Solving: Excellent troubleshooting skills for resolving complex issues related to virtualization, operating systems, and infrastructure components.
Collaboration: Ability to work in a collaborative team environment with cross-functional teams and provide technical leadership.
Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills for creating documentation and interacting with various stakeholders.
