Senior Operations Research Analyst

Job OverviewThis job will be accepting candidate submissions until 17 September 2024.The Air Force Research Laboratory Plans and Programs Directorate, Strategic Planning and Transformation Division seeks to hire a mid-level DR-03 Senior Research Operations Research Analyst or Data Scientist.Position Duties include, but are not limited to:• Serve as an operations research analyst or data scientist providing the Department of the Air Force (DAF) Technology Executive Officer (TEO) assessments of the effectiveness of the $6.0 Billion science and technology portfolio.• Expert knowledge of a broad range of analytic and data science techniques, such as: process modeling, value focused thinking, wargaming, optimization, constructive models and simulations, data visualization, big data, and database structure.• Review DAF level strategy, guidance, review documents, and presentations for senior level decision makers.• Serves as an expert on operations research or data analysis techniques, performing a broad range of analysis assignments solving unique problems with creativity, innovative use of techniques, advanced approaches, and/or new technologies.• Develops and coordinates study/experimental plans utilizing mathematical and statistical techniques, elements of operations research theory, and engineering knowledge to develop study plans, designs, and conduct analytical studies in-like fashion as scientific experiments to obtain necessary qualitative and quantitative data.• Supports AFRL HQ processes and products as an integral part of AFRL/XPT and works closely with other HQ divisions using future projections and simulation to provide support for adversarial representation, technology maturation risk, and usage of risk mitigation strategies across the spectrum of analysis.• Accomplishes professional development and maintains technical proficiency through professional interaction with technical and professional societies, associations, academia, symposia, contractors, research, and development (R&D) organizations, and participation in formal training programs.TeleworkYes, this position is eligible for telework opportunities; as determined by agency policyRemote Work (CONUS)No, this position is not approved for remote work.Required Qualifications• US Citzenship• Applicants must be able to meet the OPM Qualfication Standards of the position being filled. Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standards can be found at: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/1500/operations-research-series-1515/ - Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.• Applications must be able to meet the OPM Qualfication Standards of the position being filled. Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standards can be found: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/1500/data-science-series-1560/ - Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.• Must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lowest grade level or equivalent grade level of the position being advertised.• Ability to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.• Males must be registered for Selective Service, see www.sss.gov.• This is a drug testing designated position.
