Position: Laboratory Technician – MLT, MT, or MLS Certified

Job Summary:

The Laboratory Technician works in conjunction with other laboratory staff team members to conduct or support laboratory testing to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The position works to ensure proficiency and accuracy in all aspects of laboratory testing and services. Works as a team member to meet or exceed goals. Follows policies and procedures set forth for accuracy, safety, best patient outcomes, and promptness.


Essential Functions:
  • Excellent communication and laboratory service skills
  • Demonstrates proficiency, competency, and understanding of fundamental principles of clinical laboratory procedures
  • Performs and reports test results for waived, moderate, and high complexity laboratory procedures as assigned
  • Participates or performs proficiency testing for equipment and services to maintain the highest accuracy standards and in compliance with federal and state regulations
  • Operates computerized laboratory equipment and/or data systems for test results
  • Escalates any discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor or staff member
  • Follows appropriate protocol to meet and exceed industry standards in laboratory testing
  • Uses policy and procedures developed for specimen collection, labeling, handling, and all processes of laboratory services
  • Participates or performs QC testing for area or tests assigned
  • Follows the direction of the laboratory manager in reporting any discrepancies and assist with prompt resolutions
  • Monitors supplies, reagents, and uses laboratory resources efficiently and effectively
  • Efficiently operates laboratory equipment
  • Participates with outside vendors with laboratory equipment servicing or repairs as needed
  • Troubleshoots problems detect equipment malfunctions, investigates and resolves technical problems, consults with laboratory manager or supervisory staff for prompt resolutions.
  • Performs and documents maintenance and functional operation checks on instruments
  • Other duties as assigned


Education:
  • Graduate of an accredited Associate Degree Program in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
  • Requires Certifications, Registries, Licenses


Experience:
  • Prefer one year of experience but will accept new graduates with excellent references


Skills & Abilities:
  • Possesses problem-solving skills, basic computer skills, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to develop a positive rapport with patients and staff
  • Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner
  • Knowledge of laboratory and office equipment
  • Mathematical skills and data conversion skills

Scheduled Weekly Hours:

Friday (8:00 AM – 5:30 PM)

One afternoon each week off.


Job Type: Full-time


Expected hours: 36 – 40 hours per week
