American Express Global Commercial Services (GCS) is the B2B payments division of American Express, enabling businesses globally to pay for and finance what they need to grow their businesses. GCS provides a suite of payment and lending products, solutions for travel and everyday business spending, cross border payments, global currency solutions, and business financing. 

GCS Strategy, M&A, and Alliances (SMA) team plays an integral role in defining, developing, and leading new strategies, inorganic growth (M&A), partnership (Alliances) opportunities, as well as managing Annual Investment Planning, Opex, Strategic Engagement Team to accelerate our overall 3-year strategy and vision.

We are hiring a VP, Strategic Alliances to head the Alliances arm, responsible for our holistic approach in developing and aligning our commercial partnership strategy.

This individual will lead a high-performing team that sources and negotiates new business development opportunities and manages a portfolio of third-party relationships that deliver strengthened solutions to our customers. This individual will be responsible for collaborating across the enterprise to take opportunities from ideation to execution, and serve as a COE across GCS for consistent, controlled approach to third-party partnerships.

 

Core Responsibilities

  • Development and alignment of our commercial partnership strategy, including building a pipeline of new business development and growth opportunities, and managing a portfolio of third-party partnerships throughout the end-to-end life cycle
  • Drive the prioritization, execution, and socialization of high-impact opportunities including product integrations, high value distribution channels, and value capture for GCS customers via enterprise relationships
  • Standardize GCS’ partnership operating model, serving as a Center of Excellence and provide specialized support as a key lead for business development discussions, contract negotiations, and the management of partner relationships
  • Drive broadscale thought leadership on GCS’ innovation agenda through partnerships as a growth and retention lever across segments
  • Lead high impact deals, managing end-to-end negotiations for GCS engagements and enterprise-wide initiatives
  • Lead and develop a high performing deal team that can serve as partnership subject matter experts across GCS

 

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in negotiations and leading deals with a focus on complex new business development; strong understanding of AXP deal and oversight processes preferred
  • Excellent influencing, negotiation, and partner management skills necessary to build strong relationships.
  • Outstanding matrix management skills, with the ability to mobilize, drive and direct resources across the organization without direct reporting lines
  • Excellent partnership and/or client management skills (industry agnostic) with a demonstrated ability to influence key decision makers
  • Strong people leadership skills with an ability to collaborate and work as a true member of a team both within and outside GCS Strategic Alliances
  • Robust strategic skills, with the ability to identify and assess key points, implications and recommendations (across both AXP and prospective partners); operating experience a plus
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to drive successful results in a fast-paced environment with white space
  • Strong financial acumen and the ability to understand various levers within the deal framework
  • Experience in the Commercial/B2B space required
  • Understanding of emerging technologies and experience working with FinTechs
  • Strong external network of relationships in relevant industries

 

Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions

Salary Range: $185,000.00 to $260,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
