Brief Job Description
The Engineering Technology Department at SUNY Buffalo State seeks candidates for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the ETAC-ABET- accredited Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) program. Applicants are expected to provide evidence of engineering, industrial or related professional experience where they have demonstrated substantial engineering responsibility or achievement. This position will afford the opportunity to support the development and delivery of nanoscience and nanotechnology curricula and to participate in, and lead, nano-related research activities. Applicants are expected to teach a full range of undergraduate and graduate courses in the MET program (e.g.: fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer), and to provide mentoring to a diverse population of students. Of particular interest are candidates who can contribute, through their teaching, research and service, to diversity in the academic community.
Required Qualifications
- Earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, or closely-related field.
- Relevant industrial experience demonstrating a record of increasing responsibilities which can include engineering design accomplishments and engineering management responsibilities, such as:
- Substantial engineering responsibility or achievement.
- Publication of engineering or scientific papers, books, or inventions.
- Technical direction, or management of important scientific or engineering work, with evidence of accomplishment.
- Recognized contributions to the welfare of the scientific or engineering profession.
- Evidence of tenure-track, adjunct, and/or other significant teaching or instructional training experience in the mechanical engineering field, which could include teaching responsibility as instructor of record, course/workshop development, design of laboratory experiments, and/or development of curriculum modifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineering licensure.
- Professional certification(s) in relevant fields of practice.
- Familiarity with other related engineering disciplines (e.g.: materials, sustainability).
- Prior experience in ETAC-ABET accreditation activities and procedures.
- Active membership in relevant professional societies.
- Familiarity with online course development and teaching.
- Expertise and experience in nanotechnology and nanoscience.
