Position Description

Seattle University has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and skilled educator to serve as Associate Athletic Performance Coach and join our community. This position provides specialized skill instruction and program support in the area of physical and mental performance training specific to the strength, speed and conditioning development of 330 student-athletes. The university sponsors 20 NCAA Division I sports.

Essential Job Functions:

Reporting to the Head Athletic Performance Coach, the following are the key responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized instruction and motivation to individual student-athletes and teams to enhance strength, speed, agility, conditioning and mental/emotional resilience.
  • Teach and demonstrate proper lifting mechanics and movement patterns.
  • Design training program for sports and oversee changes to conditioning plans.
  • Solicit head coach team objectives and priorities and design and implement goal-specific, year-round training programs for teams and student-athletes.
  • Ensure a safe, equitable and inclusive environment for all student-athletes within all strength and conditioning facilities and in all activities.
  • Collaborate with sports medicine personnel to provide responsive holistic care. Play active role in the reconditioning of student-athletes returning to activity from injury.
  • Assist with the coordination of all aspects of day-to-day performance training procedures and operations, including the management and scheduling for the Athletic Performance Center.
  • Supervise graduate assistants and/or student interns.
  • Assist in making recommendations regarding equipment and manage budget for maintenance and repairs of the weight room equipment.
  • Actively maintain professional knowledge base and credentials by researching industry scientific and clinical advancements.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree required. Two years related experience at the NCAA intercollegiate level or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
  • Current National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist Certification (CSCS) or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa) Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) certification required and must be maintained for duration of employment. Current Adult CPR/First Aid/AED certification is also required and must be maintained for duration of employment.
  • The ability and willingness to exercise discretion and have sound professional judgement is required.

  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the NCAA, WAC, or any athletics conference in which Seattle University is a member or may join, and other established bodies that govern or oversee intercollegiate athletics. In the event Employee becomes aware, or has reasonable cause to believe, that violations of these organizations’ constitutions, bylaws, rules or regulations may have taken place, Employee shall promptly report the same to the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance at the University. Employee shall cooperate fully and completely with any investigation of any alleged violation, whether such investigation is conducted by the University, NCAA or any other duly authorized agency or individual.
  • All positions at Seattle University require a criminal history background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s or advanced degree with three years related experience at the NCAA Division I level.
  • Strong working knowledge of multi-directional speed and agility.
  • Understanding of motor learning stages and the physiological management of stress.
  • Muscle tissue and energy systems recovery.
  • Possess demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with internal and external constituencies for the purpose of advance the program.

Compensation at a Glance:

Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate’s gender or any other protected status.

Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck. Seattle University provides generous leave, health plans, and retirement contributions that add to your total compensation package.
