The Quality Engineer focuses on leading raw material quality concerns/claims and improvements including preventative actions to improve quality for both internal and external customers. This position requires the ability to drive improvement across multiple functional areas, through committed root cause discovery and analysis. Good judgment skills are necessary to ensure the appropriate balance of quality, compliance, and business needs.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Activities and duties may vary depending upon site specific needs. Essential functions may include, but are not limited to:
Work with raw material vendors to resolve quality issues and to make improvements.
Act as the primary problem solving resource for raw material issues as needed.
Act as the link between operations and raw material vendors.
Provide internal production quality support related to issue resolution, product quality/risk assessment and product disposition.
Work to help resolve internal and external customer quality concerns as required.
Work across functional boundaries and interface with these business disciplines in a significant manner - laboratory, manufacturing, engineering, sales, and marketing functions as needed to carry out assignments.
Works to improve quality metrics (complaints, losses, hold) through supplier quality improvements
Dispositions materials or assists in dispositioning material on as needed basis.
Provide support in customer, supplier, third party and regulatory audits.
Other duties as deemed necessary.
Provides training and quality support to the production areas as needed.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field.
2-5 years experience in Quality or similar fields.
Good statistical background with Minitab knowledge
Experience handling multiple responsibilities with minimal direction.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; strong presentation skills.
Able to effectively work with various functions and levels within the organization.
Preferred Requirements
Knowledge of ISO 9001 is a plus
Six Sigma Training or certification is helpful
