Job Description

MIMTA manages USD2.9 billion of agricultural farmland assets on behalf of its institutional investors including public and private plans.

Our clients’ assets are located across 325,000 acres of prime farmland in major regions including California, the Midwest, the Mississippi Delta, the Pacific Northwest, the Southern Plains, Southeast United States and Quebec, Canada. In California, HFS and FMS manage 65,000 acres of prime almond, pistachio, walnut, and wine grapes properties.

The Opportunity

Responsible for the management coordination of surface and groundwater resources and assets associated with agriculture assets managed by MIMTA in California, including supporting the development of additional water supply to meet client’s long-term needs. The position is a supporting function to direct farm operations as it pertains to water security, political affects and development.

How will you create Impact

The Water Resources Manager position is an integral part of a team of farm managers and farm operators. The Manager will collaborate and coordinate with groups throughout MIMTA, including the water policy team, and will work closely with the Ranch Managers to manage surface and groundwater supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage water resources activities including coordination and planning, development and implementation of projects and actions related to water resources for MIMTA-managed properties, including but not limited to recharge projects, supplemental water supply development, and land repurposing,
  • Coordinating with consultants and team members to develop and maintain water budgets by property and groundwater subbasin; work with management to develop strategies to enhance water resources; assist in cropping and redevelopment decision-making.
  • Initiate and manage short-term and long-term transfers of water to MIMTA properties.
  • Support acquisitions team by developing and maintaining forward-looking assessment of water sufficient regions and cropping strategies; provide water-related input on specific acquisition targets. Research and identify potential areas for cropping specific water rich areas in the state.
  • Manage engagement in implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act, including but not limited to: 1. Monitor/attend/coordinate with consultants and Ranch Managers to cover meetings and develop summary of issues for each Groundwater Sustainability Agency (GSA)/Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) 2. Participate in GSP in implementation to ensure MIMTA objectives and opportunities are addressed to the fullest extent practicable 3. Advocate for programs, actions, and fee structures consistent with client interests 4. Develop alliances with common water-related interests.
  • Support management in water project development, planning, and implementation.
  • Supervise water operations analyst position to provide accurate data.
  • Other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time

What are we looking for

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in agricultural sciences, environmental management, or related field from an accredited educational institution
  • Minimum 3 years directly related experience with job(s) demonstrating experience in working with water development projects or farmland management
  • Proven ability to work with all types of individuals both internal and external to the organization and function well in team settings
  • Must have demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to apply those skills to contentious issues
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and conflicting priorities
  • Must be highly motivated, entrepreneurial and customer service oriented
  • Must be able to apply sound judgment in decision making with a strong orientation to detailed and high quality work
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.
  • Valid drivers license. Travel is expected to be between 25-40%.

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Salary range is expected to be between

$84,000.00 USD - $151,200.00 USD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
