Overview:


The CDC Foundation seeks a Public Health Educator II who will serve as the infection prevention health educator for the Surveillance of Healthcare Associated Antibiotic Resistance and Patient Safety (SHARPPS) Program in the Communicable Disease Branch of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. The individual in this role will create and disseminate outreach and educational resources aimed at enhancing infection prevention among frontline staff throughout various healthcare settings, with a specific focus on outpatient and long-term care environments.



Qualifications:


· Working knowledge of community assessment techniques.

· Thorough knowledge of public health principles, practices, and education methodologies.

· Experience in developing health education and outreach materials for diverse audiences.

· Considerable knowledge of modern health education theories, techniques, and dissemination methods.

· Experience in applying community health education principles at the local level.

· Ability to organize, coordinate, and implement public health education programs.

· Strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills, adaptable to audiences with varying educational backgrounds.

· Proficiency in computers and software, including word processing, publishing, and presentation tools.

· Educational requirements: Master’s degree in Public Health Education or Public Health with a major in public health education and two years of experience; or a Bachelor’s degree in Health Education and four years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.



Responsibilities:


· Collaborate with the SHARRPS Program’s Lead Infection Preventionist to develop a statewide strategic vision and plan for strengthening infection prevention and control.

· Facilitate infection prevention and control training sessions by conducting educational interventions grounded in current scientific research and public health standards, specifically tailored to the unique characteristics of each healthcare setting.

· Develop, plan, implement and/or revise educational materials and tools to assist in the assessment and promotion of infection prevention compliance.

· Make content for all healthcare workers, regardless of previous training or background knowledge.

· Work in coordination with Local Health Departments to address identified infection prevention and control gaps and develop educational tools to address them.

This role is involved in a dynamic public health program. As such, roles and responsibilities are subject to change as situations evolve. Roles and responsibilities listed above may be expanded upon or updated to match priorities and needs, once written approval is received by both the CDC Foundation and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, in order to best support the State of North Carolina in their public health programming.

This position is currently a hybrid position. CDC Foundation retains the right to make adjustments to this as required.
