Coordinates Circulation Team, including hiring, training, and supervising student employees; policy development and implementation, as well as day-to-day problem solving; knows all aspects of the department, and serves as backup for other Circulation staff as needed. May work flexible shifts, including some evenings and weekends.
Anticipated Salary Range: $18.00 to $20.77 per hour
Responsibilities:
- Recruit, interview, hire, train and supervise 15-20 Circulation student assistants; provide daily work direction; provide scheduling, training and problem-solving assistance; develop comprehensive training programs for all Circulation student workers and part-time Circulation assistants to ensure that policies and procedures are understood, including customer service skills development; collaborate with Circulation staff to implement programs.
- Facilitate communication among team members and provide day-to-day procedural problem-solving; take lead in ensuring clear, consistent Circulation policies are developed as needed; take a primary role in communicating these policies to library staff and library users; analyze, update and revise written Circulation policies and procedures in relevant areas; keep the department supervisor apprised of department issues.
- Supervise and train part-time on-call Circulation Desk Clerks.
- Place materials on reserve as requested by faculty and maintain statistics of reserve material use.
- Check out books, computers and electronic equipment, DVDs and other materials using library system circulation software.
- Provide customer service beyond the circulation functions by ensuring that a positive image is maintained in interactions with patrons from campus and the wider community; providing directions, making referrals, and, when needed, providing basic research assistance.
- Provide basic technical assistance with computing problems related to connectivity, printing and productivity software in the absence of ITS: Solutions Center staff; monitor and report on printer problems.
- Maintain confidentiality of patron information and protect patron privacy; assist in maintenance of patron database containing confidential information.
- Maintain awareness of public spaces and interactions and contact campus safety, the Operations Manager and/or the College Librarian as needed to handle issues that may arise.
- Maintain current in-depth knowledge of circulation procedures and processes and serve as back up for coworkers.

Required Qualifications:
Two years college/Associates degree equivalent work experience plus a minimum of two years related experience; excellent customer service skills; excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written; ability to work in a team environment; ability to think critically and act independently; ability to stay calm in emergency situations; ability to balance multiple demands; proficient in computer software programs; including Windows, Microsoft Office and Web browsers; ability to work flexible shifts, including some evening and weekend work.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree; supervisory experience; library circulation work experience; group facilitation experience. Familiarity with bibliographic records.
