Manager, Engineering - Kubernetes

About the Role:
CloudZero is seeking a seasoned and inspiring software engineering leader to guide one of our core product development teams. Each team is composed of 5–8 front-end and back-end engineers, supported by a dedicated product manager and product designer. As an Engineering Manager, you’ll play a key leadership role on the team - shaping engineering culture, defining technical direction, translating strategic objectives into actionable plans, and guiding the team to architect scalable, high-quality software that delights our customers.

In this role, you’ll lead one of CloudZero’s most strategic initiatives: strengthening our core data platform by acquiring and processing Kubernetes container metric data. This capability powers our industry-leading cost allocation for shared compute resources - a must-have for our customers operating in Kubernetes environments.

And we’re not stopping there. Our vision is to transform this telemetry into actionable insights that help customers make smarter decisions, improve efficiency, and deliver real business outcomes. Your team will be at the center of that transformation, turning raw data into meaningful impact.

You will:

  • Directly lead, coach, grow, motivate, and support 5-8 engineers
  • Help recruit new, talented engineers to your team
  • Facilitate the continuous improvement of your team regarding delighting our customers, improving quality, and innovating in our space
  • Help advocate for quality and technical debt improvements
  • Partner closely with Product Management and Product Design teams
  • Assist in product decisions to ensure the platform evolves in ways that are sustainable and delightful to our customers
  • Drive improvements to our engineering processes, ensuring that we continue to move fast and iterate quickly, giving everyone agency, ownership, and the ability to impact the broader success of the company
  • You have 8-10+ years of experience building and operating software systems
  • You have a strong understanding of Kubernetes internals and container orchestration, with familiarity in Go (Golang) and building / maintaining Kubernetes operators, agents, or controllers
  • You possess deep knowledge of distributed systems architecture, observability practices, and performance tuning
  • You have experience building and operating large-scale systems in production, ideally in public cloud environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • You are known for being collaborative, personable, professional, and inclusive, and others frequently describe you as approachable and easy to work with
  • You excel at outbound communication, both synchronous and asynchronous
  • You have 3-5+ years of experience managing teams of high-performing engineers
  • You have a passion for coaching and mentoring engineers and teams in highly collaborative and evolving environments
  • You believe in empowering teams with high levels of ownership and autonomy
  • Experience in B2B infrastructure or platform products is a strong plus

About CloudZero:

Cloud cost management is one of the biggest challenges organizations face today. As cloud adoption continues to accelerate, so do the complexities and costs associated with it - and macroeconomic conditions only increase pressure to prove cloud efficiency. That’s why we built CloudZero: a SaaS platform at the intersection of next-generation cloud cost management and FinOps. CloudZero ingests billing and usage data from all cloud, SaaS, and PaaS providers, organizes it in real time according to our customers’ business structures, lets customers view it at any level of time or resource granularity, and ultimately empowers them to make more informed business decisions.

Since our founding in 2016, our mission has been to make efficient innovation a reality for every cloud-driven organization. At CloudZero, we believe every engineering decision is a buying decision, yet the cost conversation often bypasses the engineers who drive those determinations. To solve this, we’ve built a dynamic, single-page application that answers the complex, data-heavy questions every cloud-based organization needs to ask if they want to grow their company profitably.

To date, we’ve raised over $52 million from leading venture capital firms across the country. We’re solving problems of massive scale, business importance, and complexity in a space that needs it more than ever. We’re growing rapidly and would love for you to be a part of it.

**Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States. We cannot sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an Employment Visa at this time.**

CloudZero offers competitive compensation and benefits, including:

  • Comprehensive Health Care, Dental, and Vision Plans
  • CloudZero Equity
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan
