College Success Specialist

The College Success Specialist builds relationships with incoming and continuing ASU Three Rivers students to ensure appropriate degree or program placement, support successful completion of courses, and facilitate effective transitions to ongoing education or work. This position manages the ASU Three Rivers Early Alert program and works closely with all support-services programs as well as faculty to strengthen student success. The College Success Specialist conducts daily work in alignment with ASU Three Rivers mission and academic purpose, supporting the College’s retention, persistence and completion efforts. This grant-funded position is underwritten by the Division of Career and Technical Education through its Arkansas Career Coach program.

Essential Job Functions:

Ensure appropriate degree or program placement

• Partner with admissions advisors for early identification of high-risk students; Support severely underprepared students via College Career Access Program partnership with ASU Three Rivers Adult Education Division.
• Provide interest inventories and skills assessments to facilitate selection of appropriate program or degree
• Assist students with enrolling in education or training programs.
• Earn Accuplacer certification to assist with offering placement testing as needed.

Support successful completion of courses

• Connect students to academic enrichment activities such as study groups, tutoring, and appropriate academic workshops.
• Cooperate with faculty in the Early Alert process:
• Address academic concerns with referred students and maintain communication with referring faculty during the monitoring period.
• Coordinate support using a shared services model amongst college departments, including (TRiO, Career Pathways, Veteran Services, Library, Student Government Association, Adult Ed, and Financial Aid).
• Develop, coordinate, monitor, and track the progress of academic success plans for students on academic probation or who are not meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress
• Provide intrusive advising services and resources:
• Partner with Veteran Services to ensure students receive benefits for which they are eligible.
• Communicate important dates to students with actions needed such as FAFSA renewal, scholarship deadlines, priority registration, and drop/withdrawal deadlines when necessary.
• Facilitate effective transitions to ongoing education or work
• Facilitating the development of individual career plans and portfolios.
• Participate in new student orientation, Student Government Association activities and other campus events.
• Other duties may be assigned, which relate to the mission and goals of the Arkansas Works program.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree. Experience in higher education or a public-school environment is preferred.
• Must be highly motivated and able to work with minimal direct supervision.
• Excellent computer skills with a strong background in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• Must have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively orally, in writing and in public presentation settings.
• A background check is required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 per year
