Data Engineer (CENTCOM)

WWC Global, an operating firm of Command Holdings, is seeking a Data Engineer to support CENTCOM in their data integration efforts. This position is on-site located on MacDill AFB, FL. The Data Engineer shall provide leadership and support in all phases of the data management lifecycle and data acquisition to oversee and help build an enterprise data architecture in support of the Command's data scientists and analysts. The engineer shall collaborate with and serve the Command and its Components to gather, process, store, secure, and use data.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing support to all phases of the data management lifecycle and data acquisition to oversee and help build an enterprise data architecture. Performing help desk type functions, including showing hands-on user assistance.
  • Applying languages such as Python and R for data engineering, ingestion, and transformation of structured and unstructured/NoSQL data.
  • Designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines that are responsible for extracting data from various sources, transforming it into a usable format, and loading it into data storage systems.
  • Actively working to ensure compliance with DOD data governance.
  • Visualizing, building, and maintaining data frameworks that provide a secure, highly available, scalable environment for both humans and machines to derive the insights and analytics required to make mission-critical decisions.
  • Employing data modeling, data warehousing, database management, Application Programing Interface (API), Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) tools.
  • Utilizing ETL to clean, validate, and transform data, ensuring its quality and reliability.
  • Leveraging robotic process automation and enforcing other processes that generate authoritative, quality, and timely data in support of reports, analysis, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
  • Working with Data Scientists, ORSAs, Analysts, etc. to understand data requirements and design appropriate data models and schemas for their enterprise data activities.
  • Implementing quality checks and validation processes to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data.
  • Keeping distributed data stores in-sync and detecting/remedying state drift.
  • Migrating data frameworks to on and off premise cloud computing and data storage when and where appropriate.
  • Building communications between teams using personal exchanges, teleconferences, and video conference tools.
  • Using open, transparent, and clear communications, as well as providing relevant, accurate and up-to-date information.
  • Developing, deploying, and supporting high-quality, fault-tolerant data pipelines and building monitoring/alerting mechanisms for those pipelines.

Work Environment:

  • Moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phone and printers) and /or occasional Loud noise (airfield, large equipment).
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field (Computer Science, Software Engineering, etc.).
  • Current, active Top Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI eligibility.
  • 3+ years' experience in Data Engineering.
  • Extensive knowledge of R and Python.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Outstanding communication skills, influencing abilities, and client focus.
  • Professional proficiency in English is required.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. WWC Global will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current, active TS/SCI Clearance.
  • Certified Data Management Professional certification.
  • Familiar with Advana and Anaconda platforms.
  • Experience with Posit workbench.
  • Experience with cloud computing/operations.
  • Experience with UI/UX design.
  • Operations/Joint Planning background (General/Admiral-level command).
