The Controller will serve as an integral member of the Accounting organization. The Controller will be charged with developing and implementing more sophisticated policies and procedures both in the Accounting and Finance realms as well as general operational realms. This position will work closely with the VP of Finance and be a key player in connecting various teams within the Company with high-impact reporting, analyses, and hands-on financial support. This role presents an opportunity for you to not only lead the traditional accounting and financial operations but also craft and implement entrepreneurial solutions to simplify business processes for financial tasks.RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:• Own the financial statements and all processes and systems used to maintain and report the financial statements timely and accurately on a monthly, quarterly, and year-end basis.• Prepare timely and accurate monthly financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP for internal users including the executive team and Board of Directors.• Oversee job costing activities to accurately track project costs and margins.• Develop and maintain cost allocation methodologies to allocate expenses to projects.• Analyze job cost reports to identify variances and provide insights to project managers.• Begin preparing the Company to report on an accrual basis of accounting post-transaction. Understand and monitor appropriate policies and pronouncements to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and other statutory requirements, including the analysis and documentation of technical accounting issues like accounting for leases, project accounting, and other areas involving judgement in the application of standards.• Review the Company’s chart of accounts and make recommendations to account categorizations and titles based on an understanding of the business, and new activity.• Oversee timely and consistent month-end close process in accordance with industry best practices.• Review (and when necessary, prepare) journal entries, reconciliations, financial reports, and other analysis.• Work with the Company’s external CPA firm to coordinate, plan, execute special accounting projects, or for staff support as needed, to accomplish the Company’s accounting function.• Work with the Company’s external tax accountants to timely file all required tax returns, including sales and use tax, franchise, and other tax reporting requirements.• Ensure the accounting function maintains the technical competency required for accurate and timely reporting, including adequate training, oversight and review, and monitoring of the impact of changes in the business and new regulatory and accounting pronouncements.• Participate in the design and evaluation of the operating effectiveness of our internal controls over financial reporting and disclosures.• Work with the VP Finance and F&A team to assist in the preparation of key financial metrics, operational performance metrics, specific project analysis, including but not limited to the annual Budget and Long-Range Plans.• Help define, refine, and track the communication of the company wide KPIs.• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate strategic initiatives, investments, and potential M&A activities. Conduct comprehensive financial due diligence to assess the financial viability of such ventures.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Experience:• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or other related field. (BA or BS).• 5+ years of relevant leadership experience in accounting.• 3+ years of exposure to working with executive leadership.• A thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting and finance principles.• Ideally have been involved with or led equity fundraises and have been part of an exit.• Strong technical accounting experience/skills.• Strong quantitative skills with high proficiency in Excel and U.S. GAAP accounting.• Knowledgeable in accounting for leases, telecommunications, and project cost accounting.• Ideally have experience with Workday for Accounting and Financial purposes.• Strategy development.• Business and process improvement.• In depth knowledge of corporate financial law and risk management practices.• Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of effectively conveying complex financial information to diverse audiences.• A proactive, adaptable, and results-oriented approach, thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment.• Ability to design and manage data visualization tools, such as Power BI.• Advanced in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) and financial systems.Benefits:• Join a fast-growing company where you will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact.• Clear line of sight for career advancement and significant accomplishments.• Base salary that is competitive, bonuses, equity, and ad-hoc recognition awards, that are based on efforts and tied to performance.• Competitive Sick and PTO offering.• 15 paid Company holidays.• High-quality health care coverage.• 401(k) match dollar for dollar up to 4% of base salary.
