Resource Navigator

The Resource Navigator will serve as the primary community-facing

representative for recovery programs, attending outreach events

and community meetings to engage directly with marginalized

communities affected by Hurricane Helene.

Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Resource Navigator will

interface with the community to identify unmet needs and help

advocate for resources such as support for trauma, legal aid,

rent/utility assistance, and home repair from other NGOs and

partners. The Navigator will assist with FEMA applications and the

appeals process, ensuring that BIPOC and LatinX communities can

access the recovery resources they need. Spanish fluency is

required.


Responsibilities:
  • Attend community events, tabling activities, and outreach efforts to engage with BIPOC and LatinX communities affected by Hurricane Helene.
  • Serve as the direct point of contact for the community, collecting and identifying unmet needs and reporting them to the Program Coordinator to advocate for additional resources.
  • Assist community members with filling out FEMA applications and learning the appeals process, ensuring equitable access to federal recovery support.
  • Participate in community meetings to share updates, available resources, and advocate for marginalized groups in need of further support.
  • Collaborate with the Program Coordinator to ensure outreach efforts align with program goals and effectively reach underserved communities.
  • Maintain accurate records of community interactions, unmet needs, and resource distributions to support program reporting and advocacy efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned


Scope and Travel:
  • Reports to: Program Coordinator
  • Travel: Regular travel within Western North Carolina to attend community events, tabling sessions, and meetings.


Qualifications:
  • 1 year of relevant experience in disaster recovery, or community outreach.


Experience:
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English (must be fluent in both languages, written and spoken).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with community members in a compassionate and culturally sensitive manner.
  • Experience working with marginalized communities, particularly BIPOC and LatinX groups.
  • Ability to learn and assist with FEMA applications and the appeals process.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records of community outreach efforts.


Skills and Competencies:
  • Experience in community outreach, advocacy, or social work, especially in disaster recovery contexts.
  • Familiarity with local organizations and community resources in Western North Carolina.
  • Ability to represent CORE at public events and build relationships with partners and stakeholders.


$20 - $20 an hour
In accordance with law, the expected pay range for this position is posted with this position. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
