Location: Dallas, TX / Austin, TX / Bedminster, NJ (hybrid)

Reports To: Assistant General Counsel

About You:

You have experience with complex corporate matters including formation and governance of joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and other complex corporate transactions. Experience with transactions in the insurance business a requirement. You excel at contract review and providing hands-on contract drafting and legal advice to all levels within an organization.

What You'll Do:

  • Draft and review key vendor agreements for insurance operations including claims agreements, data agreements, and consulting agreements to minimize risk and apply consistent legal terms and protections
  • Partner with the growth team as their go-to counsel as they develop new (non-insurance) products for Hippo
  • Joint Venture formation and negotiation
  • General corporate transactions including real property related agreements
  • Insurance related Marketing and Lead Generation Agreements with new partners
  • Insurance Carrier Agreements and Sub-Producer Agreements
  • Serve as legal support to key stakeholders and partners
  • Research, identify, and mitigate legal risks across the organization
  • Meet legal objectives
  • Deal with complex, significant matters that cut across legal and related areas
  • Work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining multiple projects and responsibilities

Must Haves:

  • 2-5+ years of comparable law firm and/or in-house experience
  • Insurance related experience
  • Strong proven background in corporate law and transactions
  • Excellent negotiation and communications skills
  • Analytical ability
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Works independently but knows when to collaborate
  • J.D. and current license to practice law in at least one state
  • Overall broad legal knowledge (corporate law, transactions, compliance, etc.)
  • In-depth understanding of how legal issues affect organizations
  • Ability to develop legal strategy and objectives
  • Ability to anticipate legal issues or risks and to "see around the corner"
  • Self-motivated and directed; ability to collaborate is a must
  • Strong intellectual curiosity and a desire to learn how to help others solve problems
  • Flexible and willing to do what is needed to get great work done
  • A natural inclination to work within a culture that is fast-paced and dynamic
