Customer Program Manager - Remote

Position Overview

The Customer Program Manager (CPM) will manage multiple multimillion-dollar projects and ensure the successful launch of battery-electric buses throughout North America. The CPM will be the primary interface between the customer and Proterra beginning at initial contract award and continuing through delivery to the customer’s site. A successful CPM coordinates with each functional area internally and externally, manages and mitigates risks, and displays strong leadership skills. As the Project Manager, the CPM is responsible for certifying all project objectives are met (both internally and externally) and ensuring that every Proterra customer never buys another diesel bus.

About the Role – You will:

  • Utilize accepted project management principles, tools, and best practices to deliver the highest quality customer engagement experience while meeting internal revenue targets
  • Manage projects by ensuring designs are in line with customer specifications and requirements, coordinating operational activities, building and maintaining stakeholder relationships, and meeting organizational goals.
  • Identify and manage risks by understanding the roles of and coordinating with the Proterra Sales, Supply Chain, Engineering, Production, Finance, Service, and Quality teams as well as with the counterparts within the customer’s organization.
  • Be responsible for on-time-delivery of purchased products and meeting internal cash collection and revenue recognition goals.
  • Manage all scheduled customer meetings, visits, and reviews.
  • Coordinate with internal infrastructure teams to ensure delivery and installation of charging systems at the customer site.
  • Execute a successful “handoff” to the Service team by ensuring an understanding of customer launch plans and training needs.
  • Continuously improve the process for managing customer contract execution and delivery.
  • Become an EV advocate and partner with customers to help them fully utilize their battery electric bus fleet.
  • This position will be remote but based in the Los Angeles area. Expect to travel regularly to our assembly plant the City of Industry, our customers and our facility in Greenville, SC
  • You will report to the Manager, Customer Programs and collaborate with other Proterra team members locally as well as at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and other manufacturing facility in Greenville, SC.

About You:

  • Self-starter with the ability to adapt interpersonal styles and techniques to influence at all levels of the organization.

  • Proficient in contracting and negotiation
  • Proficient in PM management software and financial analysis techniques

Your Experience Includes:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Engineering (or 5+ years in a technical or operations role)
  • Proven ability to directly manage the full lifecycle of complex projects that interface cross-functionally (management of scope, schedule, and cost) ($1MM +).
  • Proven ability to work and think strategically.
  • Background in Manufacturing, Operations, and/or Quality.
  • Excellent customer service experience.
  • Effective problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to communicate written and oral English

You might also have:

  • Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., MBA)
  • Formal Project Management training and certification (e.g., PMP)
  • Previous experience with commercial transportation products (e.g. buses, trucks, fleet automobiles, heavy equipment)

Location: City of Industry, CA.

Travel: 30-50%
