The Digital Community and Social Media Specialist III will be a key member of the Digital Media & Content Strategy department at the Getty Research Institute (GRI) and will oversee online community management and content creation for a wide variety of GRI and Getty social and digital channels.

The GRI’s Digital Media & Content Strategy department is a creative, united, highly productive, and award-winning team dedicated to publishing human-centered stories, multimedia, and online content about the GRI’s work, including exhibitions, public programs, publications, archives and special collections, and research projects. Our content is featured across the Getty website and a wide range of heavily trafficked social media channels and outlets.

The Digital Community and Social Media Specialist III will build and manage social communities, developing and managing online community partnerships, creating and facilitating the production of social media content, and helping advance the GRI’s position as an approachable industry expert with diverse audiences. These audiences range from our core professional audience of art historians and scholars, who may be working academics or looking for alternate career opportunities, to new audiences in underserved communities in Los Angeles that may be unaware of the GRI and its mission to freely disseminate visual art and show how the study of visual culture is relevant today.

The ideal candidate is an exceptional and creative communicator who is passionate about public scholarship. They will use social media content and community building to raise awareness of the GRI’s scholarly expertise and vast resources to build genuine, lively, and sustained engagement with a broad array of audiences.
In addition to community building and content creation, this position may also manage contractors to design and place social ad campaigns, managing influencer campaigns, and work in partnership with social teams in other Getty programs.

The GRI is an international center for the study of visual culture, housing one of the largest art libraries in the world, with vast special collections ranging from the 15th century to the present.
Major Job Responsibilities:
  • Build and manage online communities through social media channels
  • Manage development and implementation of social media strategy for the GRI
  • Create and contribute content to specific digital communications channels, implementing editorial strategy and content voice and tone
  • Source, create, and edit multimedia assets to be disseminated across digital communications platforms
  • Coordinate logistics related to execution of social media content, including approvals
  • Execute content calendar and documentation
  • Evaluate how content is performing and create reports with actionable recommendation
  • Liaise with stakeholders to ensure coordination and achieve goals
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree a plus)
  • 4-6 years experience
  • A strong background in arts and humanities and knowledge of a cultural research environment is highly preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Expertise in social platforms and current and future trends, with a focus on public scholarship
  • Proficiency in media creation and production tools
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Ability to handle complicated community management situations, which may include monitoring social channels during off-business hours
  • Ability to leverage current and future trends to help the GRI succeed at the initiative level
  • Demonstrated ability to work under moderate supervision and meet deadlines
