Director, Billing

Kilpatrick Townsend a large international law firm, is seeking a Director, Billing for our Finance Department in our Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh, Washington, DC or Winston-Salem office with the opportunity for a flexible, partially remote schedule. This position will be part of our team of attorneys, paralegals and support staff providing a high level of service to both internal and external clients. This position is responsible for the Firm’s Billing Specialists and billing operations in our offices. The Director, Billing provides leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, procedures, strategies, and billing services for the Firm. The position requires the knowledge and use of highly complex systems and methods to accomplish daily billing tasks, improve the billing processes and stay abreast of emerging technology.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Directly supervises US Billing managers;
  • Manages workflow and staffing needs of Firm’s Billing staff;
  • Manages and directs the activities and staff involved in developing and maintaining Billing policies and procedures for the Firm;
  • Interfaces directly with attorneys and serves as the escalation point for Billing concerns;
  • Able to lead a team that works remotely;
  • Responsible for electronic billing systems and performing month-end reporting, including developing procedures for resolving rejections and short pays;
  • Evaluates and determines needs for new customer E-billing set-up;
  • Assists Client Support Team with resolving billing issues to improve accounts receivable collections;
  • Provides guidance to Billing managers and supervisors on HR related matters;
  • Annual reviews of staff;
  • Works with billing managers to process billing overflow and specialized billing for attorneys in all practice groups;
  • Interfaces with IT team members to review, develop and/or address system issues;
  • Monitors emerging technology and researches solutions for complex billing issues.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required;
  • Minimum of 10 years billing experience;
  • Minimum of 10 years supervisory experience;
  • Previous experience in large law firm or accounting firm;
  • Knowledge of electronic billing vendors, and e-billing technology processes and procedures;
  • Ability to provide leadership, perform as a billing department and billing team leader and operate well under pressure;
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail;
  • Ability to multi-task and set priorities while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and delegate to ensure the smooth operation of the department;
  • Ability to analyze assesses possible problems, prioritize concerns, and make decisions;
  • Ability to motivate and empower others toward success;
  • Ability to adapt schedule to changing workload requirements and lead by personal example;
  • Ability to interface with C Suite, Executive Committee, partners, associates, clients, vendors, directors, managers, and support staff;
  • Skills to coordinate various resources to help others meet their objectives;
  • Ability to act as a role model in helping others solve complex problems;
  • Knowledge of complex Intellectual Property billing, Elite 3E Financial system, Billstream/Proforma Tracker Paperless billing system, Microsoft Office 365, Excel and other products is preferred.

This is a full-time, regular position with a multi-faceted health benefit package including medical, dental, and vision. The firm also offers life insurance, short term disability plans and retirement plans in addition to holidays and paid time off. The pay range for this position in Atlanta only is $165,400 to $248,200; for North Carolina only is $156,600 to $235,000 and for Washington, DC is $197,800 to $296,800 annually.
