WHY BOX NEEDS YOU


Box is looking for a Director of Product Legal to join in our Austin, Texas office. This Product Counsel will be a key team member supporting various teams throughout the development and commercialization lifecycle. As a part of an established legal team, you will help make an immediate impact on a dynamic and disruptive company that focuses on Blowing its Customer’s Minds. This is a highly cross-functional position requiring extensive interaction with team members across the business.


WHAT YOU'LL DO


  • Act as the lead business partner and escalation point for all product legal requests.
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Security, Marketing, Privacy, and other Legal teams to review products, features and initiatives to provide practical legal risk mitigation strategies in a wide range of subject areas, including product lifecycle, export control, consumer protection regulations, and contractual compliance.
  • Investigate, scope and solve complex legal issues effectively.
  • Identify potential areas of risk within new/existing products and provide proactive advice to mitigate those risks effectively.
  • Manage internal projects, processes and cross-functional efforts through to successful completion.
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing team responsible for handling various legal issues pertaining to product development activities.
  • Translate between legal frameworks and technical details to help develop practical solutions that consider both aspects, while collaborating successfully with engineers and other stakeholders.


WHO YOU ARE


  • JD and member of at least one US state bar (with eligibility to become a registered in-house counsel in Texas) with excellent academic credentials.
  • Demonstrated track record of successful collaboration with engineers, product managers and cross-functional stakeholders (including other teams within Legal).
  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in product counseling, including privacy, data protection, intellectual property, consumer protection, technology transactions, regulatory or technology litigation, preferably within the internet technologies, open source software or privacy domains.
  • Strong understanding of cloud computing industry regulations and laws.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly, accurately and succinctly to diverse audiences, both orally and writing.
  • A history of building strong relationships, credibility and partnerships.
  • Track record of managing, developing and empowering small teams.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize workloads.
  • Excellent time management skills to juggle multiple time-sensitive projects at once in a fast-paced, high growth environment.
  • Desire to learn, strong work ethic, high-level integrity and dedication to providing top-notch legal counsel.
  • Passion for client satisfaction, and building and maintaining customer trust.

Actual base salary (or OTE if commissionable role) is dependent upon factors such as: knowledge, skill level, experience, and work location. This role is also eligible for equity and benefits.
