DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Disability Management and Workers' Compensation Manager, the Disability & Accommodation Case Manager provides support and guidance to employees, faculty, and departments for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses that impact the employee/faculty member’s ability to perform the essential job functions.

This role is responsible for managing the entire process, to include but not limited to: intake and scoping of requests/claims, consultation with employees and managers, communication with providers and medical professionals, interactive process, coordination with claims managers from all UC and vendor disability systems to establish eligibility for benefits, coordination for light/modified duty, medical separations.

The Disability & Accommodation Case Manager advises staff, faculty and managers on the interpretation of Federal, State, and University regulations, policies, and agreements, as well as UC benefit systems relating to employees with a disability. Analyzes medical information as it relates to functional ability to perform essential job functions to make recommendations on reasonable accommodation or medical separation. Ensures full and complete documentation on all cases. Interfaces effectively with other departments in HR, Health and Safety, Payroll/Timekeeping, Risk Management, Legal, and related contacts internal and external to the University to achieve desired goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience/training.

  • Experience in a large, fast paced organization handling the entire disability accommodation process.

  • Ability to conduct job analyses to recommend reasonable accommodations and to compare functional capacity to job requirements in order to recommend reasonable accommodations.

  • Experience with the identification and implementation of reasonable job accommodations through the interactive process.

  • Knowledge of the ADA, FMLA, CFRA, EEOC/DFEH and other related regulations and provisions.

  • Proven conceptual and oral communication skills to explain related University and location policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreement articles.

  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and medical reports and their respective implications for reasonable accommodation and placement.

  • Ability to explain and persuade in a concise manner and ability to communicate complex information effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle a fast paced environment with a high case volume.

  • Experience working in a highly unionized environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certified Professional in Disability Management, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, Certified ADA Coordinator.

  • Experience in working in higher education or healthcare environment.

  • Healthcare experience.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $53,600 - $111,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $25.67 - $53.45

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).



Job offer is contingent on successful engagement in the UC COVID-19 Vaccination program (fully vaccinated with documented proof or approved exception/deferral).
