Special Projects Manager/Human Services

Company Description

At Dungarvin, we are more than a provider of support services—we’re a mission-driven team rooted in respect, inclusion, and person-centered care. Since 1976, we’ve been dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including those with mental health, behavioral, or complex medical needs.

Our mission is simple but powerful: respecting and responding to the choices of people in need of supports. This mission guides everything we do—from creating individualized service plans to building strong partnerships with families, teams, and communities.

As a Dungarvin employee, you’ll be at the heart of that mission. You’ll help people live meaningful lives on their own terms—supporting their goals, honoring their choices, and empowering their independence.

With services in 15 states, our team is united by a shared commitment to making a real difference—one person, one voice, one choice at a time.

In California, we’re expanding - and we’re looking for a strategic, experienced Special Projects Manager to help lead the way.

Why You’ll Love This Role:

  • Strategic Impact: You’ll help shape the future of services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities across California.
  • Leadership with Purpose: Lead initiatives that directly improve the lives of the people we support - while guiding others and representing Dungarvin at a statewide level.
  • Creative Program Development: Design, launch, and help stabilize brand-new services that make a real difference in local communities.
  • Mission-Driven Work: Be part of a team committed to person-centered values, inclusion, and meaningful progress in the human services field.

Perks & Benefits:

  • Competitive Pay:  $80,000 per year, exempt
  • Full Range Scale: $80,000 - $89,169.70 per year (The starting rate for this position is fixed at $80,000/year. Pay increases occur over time and are tied to tenure/length of employment with Dungarvin.)
  • Schedule: 8 AM - 5 PM PST (some flexibility available, but must be flexible to meet program needs)
  • 401(k) Plan: Company match available, vested after 1 year.
  • Work Environment: On-Site 5 days per week
  • Company-Provided Hardware: Equipment will be supplied by the company.
  • Pet Insurance: Coverage options available.
  • Paid Time Off: PTO that increases with tenure.
  • Paid Sick Leave
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance: Domestic partners are eligible for dental coverage.
  • National Discount Programs: Access to various discounts.
  • Long Term Disability and Life Insurance: Provided at no cost to employees.
  • Supplemental Insurance, FSA, and HSA: Additional options available.
  • TapCheck: Access up to 50% of your wages before payday.
  • Referral Bonus Program: Incentives for referring candidates.
  • Mileage Reimbursement: .70 cents per mile

Job Description

As the Special Projects Manager, you’ll play a key role in developing, launching, and strengthening services statewide. You’ll work closely with the State Director to identify opportunities, respond to RFPs, build new programs from the ground up.  You’ll also step into leadership roles when needed, support internal operations, and represent Dungarvin in community engagement efforts and help drive long-term strategic initiatives.

This position is ideal for someone who can see the big picture, take initiative, and bring creative solutions to life while also staying grounded in day-to-day execution.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Leading the development of high-quality programs and services that support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Responding to RFPs and supporting business development efforts that align with Dungarvin’s mission
  • Lead and support the full development process for new programs—from assisting with licensing and location selection to coordinating site setup, staffing, and community outreach.
  • Serving in interim leadership roles, such as Acting Program Director, to support stabilization or expansion of services
  • Building strong, collaborative relationships with regional centers, local agencies, and provider networks
  • Representing Dungarvin at transition fairs, public policy meetings, and provider forums
  • Supporting internal initiatives that enhance service delivery, compliance, and organizational growth

Travel is required, including intermittent overnight trips across California. This position offers some scheduling flexibility, a company credit card, and mileage reimbursement at $0.70 per mile.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field (experience-based flexibility available)
  • 4+ years of leadership experience in developmental disability services
  • Direct experience in service development or program expansion (e.g., launching new services, responding to RFPs, setting up programs)
  • Experience with Title 17 (service standards) and Title 22 (licensing)
  • Knowledge of California’s Regional Center system
  • Excellent project management, organization, and follow-through
  • Exceptional writing, documentation, and public speaking skills
  • Experience with grant writing or knowledge of grant processes is a strong plus
  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance
