The Opportunity:

The Early Learning Data Engineer plays a vital role in integrating data from diverse sources to drive groundbreaking research, reporting, and analysis for the Fair Start for Kids Act and various Early Learning initiatives.

In this role, you'll have the exciting task of developing and maintaining efficient and reliable data integration solutions. You'll proactively monitor and troubleshoot ongoing projects, ensuring seamless operations and optimal utilization of these invaluable data sources.

Some of what you will get to do:
  • Design and develop data pipelines to collect, integrate and process data from multiple sources.
  • Continuous optimization of data pipeline processing stages as the usage of the platform evolves.
  • Monitoring the health of the platform to proactively identify issues/failures.
  • Understand business requirements and map those to technical need.
  • Design effective data models for optimal storage and retrieval.
  • Implement data collection, processing, and storage processes using SQL and other programming languages.
  • Develop the core platform to support the ability to pull/extract data in an ad-hoc manner.
  • Evaluate requests and be able to quickly identify relevant source data/systems.
  • Acquire extensive knowledge of both the source systems and the integrated data platform from a business and technical perspective.
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, management, information systems or related field data from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education.

AND

At least three years of professional experience with Python, Java, Scala, or similar high-level programming language, including familiarity of working in a cloud computing environment, data modeling, relational database design and knowledge of how to access information for analytical purposes.

At least five years of information technology or software engineering experience analyzing, designing, programming, or maintaining computer systems applications and/or databases.

In addition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have some or all of the following:
  • Experience with non-relational databases and big data engineering tools and architectures.
  • Experience with cloud computing, specifically Microsoft Azure PaaS and SaaS services for data engineering and analysis.
  • Good communication skills both orally and written. Ability to communicate from a technical and business perspective.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL Server development environment tools (SSMS, SSRS, SSIS, ANSI SOL &TSQL).
  • Experience with Python, Scala, or similar high-level programming language.
  • PowerShell, Bash, or similar scripting language.
  • Software development methodologies and life cycles.
  • Applications development and structured analysis methods; data modeling theory and methods
  • Data modeling and database design.
