POSITION SUMMARY


The Assistant Director of Security will support the Director of Security in all security operations in support of the company’s core business and ensure the safety of tenants, visitors, ESB Observatory guests, employees and properties. The Assistant Director of Security will develop, implement, and manage all safety & security strategies and other programs for the Empire State Building, Observatory, and additional properties. 


RESPONSIBILITIES
  • In the absence of the Director of Security performs all daily duties of Security
  • Make appropriate notifications to the Director of Security and senior property managers regarding any incidents or issues/emergencies relating to ESRT in a timely manner 
  • Respond to all emergencies in relation to ESRT. (ex, active shooters, possible jumpers, etc.) 
  • Oversee all theft related investigations, reviewing surveillance video if necessary
  • Prepare all in-house investigative reports involving contractors as well as in-house personnel with a follow-up investigation to obtain all additional pertinent information if necessary
  • Review daily all written reports submitted by Security Operations Command center personnel regarding any unusual incidents, accidents, and follow up on them in a timely fashion
  • Review daily video feeds to ensure Security staff are performing their assigned duties
  • Respond to all tenant complaints and determine the appropriate action needed to correct the condition/situation
  • Review all daily logbook entries made by supervisors and watch officers
  • Interface with any insurance investigators and attorneys regarding any investigations relating to ESRT, when necessary  
  • Act as a liaison between ESRT and various city agency’s including the NYPD, NYFD, Secret Service, FBI, Mayor’s Office OEM, NY State Police, DEP, Dept. of Homeland Security, etc
  • When necessary, assist the NYPD in the implementation of a lawful arrest in order to help maintain order and safety at ESRT 
  • Escort selected dignitaries along with the Public Relations Dept. to the ESB 86th floor Observatory
  • Manages and oversees all daily aspects in processing and distribution of Building ID cards for tenants and ESB employees at the Badging station 
  • Assist the Director of Security in managing all the contracted security personnel supervisors (approximately 200 officers and supervisors)
  • Annually review contracted security services agreement ensuring that they are in compliance with terms of agreement and that no modifications/revisions are needed
  • Review all posts and protocols and recommend if any changes are needed to Director of Security
  • Review and approve all invoices on a weekly basis
  • Review all purchase orders and bills that require authorization
  • Oversee maintenance of all fire safety director’s licenses, training and the operation of the “Fire Command Station” handled by contracted security company
  • Oversee the supervision of the staff and maintenance of Security Operations Center and the electronic camera systems
  • Attend meetings with company managers on updated duties and responsibilities 
  • Daily training regarding the x-ray machines and magnetometers and functionality of equipment
  • Ensure that all personnel are dressed in proper uniform and confirm to ESRT standards

  • The Assistant Director of Security should be prepared to step into the role of the Director of Security when needed, making timely notifications regarding incidents, and responding effectively to emergencies, including potential active shooter situations or other critical events.


REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES
  • Ability to manage emergency action plans and oversight of crisis management team
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships in the industry
  • Proven experience in security management and/or law enforcement
  • Experience with real-time intelligence, critical infrastructure protection, counterterrorism, and large-scale event planning/protection
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise security personnel and third-party service providers
  • Proficient in implementing security-related procedures and plans for risk management and vulnerability mitigation
  • Skilled in coordinating security activities, including perimeter hardening, access control, and emergency response procedures
  • Capable of conducting thorough investigations and performing lawful private citizen arrests when necessary
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with law enforcement, emergency management, fire safety, and other stakeholders
  • Strong administrative skills, including the ability to maintain records and interface with senior management


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Associates degree, Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 15+ years experience with major law enforcement, intelligence, public or private sector corporate security organizations
  • 3+ years experience in large high-profile Class A office &/or mixed-use buildings or similar corporate environments
  • New York City Police Academy Graduate or similar
  • Training, courses, or certifications provided by U.S. Department of Justice, FBI Hazardous Device Course at the U.S. Army Ordnance Munitions & Electronics Maintenance School, N.J. Office of Homeland Security & Preparedness of the United States Attorney General’s office on Active Shooter, Terrorism, and Weapons of Mass Destruction preferred

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times

$140,000 - $160,000 a year
Salary is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, job location, size of property where applicable, and/or certifications. In addition to your base salary, ESRT provides discretionary annual bonuses.
