Verisign is looking for an Engineer IV – Critical Facilities (Data Center Ops) to serve as technical resource and leader within the Global Data Center Operations Team that will align with our Mission & Values. This onsite role at our Delaware Data Center will play a crucial role in the day-to-day operations & capacity planning of the mission critical systems. The ideal candidate will have technical expertise and program management for the maintenance and operation of the electrical, mechanical, and fire life safety data center systems as well as any applicable base building support systems. While being an individual contributor, you will be a leader to the team of engineers while supporting the Director of the Data Center. You must be able to lead highly skilled engineers, deliver on project timelines and be the Technical Point of Contact for on-call escalations. Meticulous communication skills along with experience developing Standard Operating Procedures, Emergency Operating Procedures and Method of Procedures utilizing technical writing standards are a must.

Mechanical responsibilities will include chilled water systems and components, HVAC systems such as roof top units, CRAC/CRAH units, and humidification systems. Electrical responsibilities will include electrical/critical power distribution from the Utility/Generator main switchgear through the UPS, STS, and PDU system to the power on the data center floor. Fire Life Safety responsibilities will include wet sprinkler systems, pre-action sprinkler systems, clean agent fire suppression systems and fire alarm systems as well as their associated detection devices.

The candidate will:

  • Operate independently with limited direct management.
  • Act as an escalation point for all facilities-related issues within the data center, escalating to the Data Center Operations Director as needed.
  • Ensure all electrical, mechanical, fire/life safety equipment supporting the data centers are operating at peak efficiency and are highly available.
  • Identify Single Points of Failures (SPoF) and End of Life (EOL) equipment within existing design/architecture and drive prioritization/remediation efforts within the facility.
  • Drive preventative maintenance best practices and oversight using Method of Procedures (MOP) and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOP) for the facility.
  • Identify root cause of system failures and present those findings to Senior Leadership.
  • Oversee multi-year capacity/growth critical facilities projects within the facility and build business cases to support the projects.
  • Be open to a continuous improvement culture.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A deep understanding of Chiller, Chilled Water and Air Handler technologies and electrical switchgear, generators, load banks, UPS, STS, PDU, RPP, and batteries.
  • 7+ years relevant experience operating data centers in a technical lead individual contributor role.
  • Mechanical, Electrical, or other related Engineering degree and/or relevant job experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Direct experience with design, engineering, commissioning, and operations of data center electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment.
  • Demonstrated expertise of the data center tier rating systems and design risk factors for resiliency and availability.
  • Experience reviewing technical drawings to ensure installations and designs conform to industry best practices and standards.
  • Experience in operations of large-scale data center environments.
  • Existing data center service vendor relationships.
  • Experience with Electrical Power Management Systems (EPMS) and Building Management Software (BMS).
  • Relevant industry certifications (NFPA, ATS, ATO, AOS, DCDC, etc).
