About the Role:

We are seeking a customer-service oriented Director of Intake and Billing Operations to join our growing team. This role is responsible for leading intake, authorization, and billing operations while driving initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce denials, and enhance overall performance. You will ensure that all processes align with payer regulations and organizational standards and focuses on cross-functional collaboration, team development, and strategic reporting. Reporting to the VP of Intake and Revenue Cycle, the Director of Intake and Billing is dedicated to ensuring consistency and excellence in the client experience, driving operational accuracy and efficiency to achieve key business objectives. Direct reports include Intake Supervisors and our medical billing team.

What you would be doing at Expressable
  • INTAKE/AUTHORIZATION
  • Intake Processes: Enhance intake workflows to improve efficiency, service quality, and client experience.
  • Authorization Management: Implement internal processes for authorization submissions aimed at minimizing denials and expediting approvals.
  • Department Leadership: Lead the Client Intake department with a focus on cross-functional collaboration and scalability to meet evolving organizational needs.
  • Quality and Training: Develop and execute training and quality assurance programs to maintain high standards of performance within intake operations.
  • Educational Resources: Create and provide educational materials to support both internal staff and clients in understanding intake procedures and expectations.
  • BILLING
  • Direct Supervision of Billing Team: Directly supervise the billing team, providing guidance, oversight, and support to ensure efficient and effective billing operations.
  • Billing and Collections Oversight: Oversee medical billing and collections, ensuring timely and accurate claim submissions, minimizing payment delays, and addressing gaps between allowed and paid amounts.
  • Claims and Collections Analysis: Regularly analyze trends in claims rejections, denials, and patient collections to identify barriers, implementing process changes to improve collection rates and reduce rejections.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain current and comprehensive knowledge of government and third-party payer billing regulations, ensuring all processes comply with relevant guidelines.
  • Quality and Compliance: Work collaboratively with both clinical quality and payer compliance teams to enhance the quality of medical record documentation, supporting accurate reimbursement and reducing denials.
  • LEADERSHIP AND REPORTING
  • Team Management: Manage and develop intake supervisors and billing team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Provide regular reports to leadership on new client intake, authorizations, claims, and collections segmented by state, payer, procedure code, and other key metrics to guide strategic decision-making.


What you bring to Expressable
  • Bachelor’s degree in health administration, business administration, finance, or other related and relevant field. 
  • 10+ years experience in managing or directing client intake, billing, or similar role
  • Proven experience in healthcare billing and deep knowledge of health insurance providers and payers across multiple states.
  • A minimum of five years managing a team of direct reports.
  • Ability to collaborate with an all-remote geographically-distributed team.
  • Revenue cycle experience in a dynamic start-up environment that demonstrates adaptability to rapid change and ambiguity.
  • Competency in office productivity and collaboration tools such as MSOffice/Teams or Google Suite and Slack.

$125,000 - $150,000 a year
