Lead Systems Engineer (Sustaining) (m/f/d)

ABOUT THE POSITION

Fluence is seeking a high-caliber Lead Systems Engineer to join the Sustaining Engineering team. Sustaining Engineering is responsible for optimizing the in-service product line at Fluence. The System Engineers on this team lead the investigation and resolution of the most challenging problems for our in-service products. The successful candidate will be an experienced engineer with the technical capacity to solve difficult electrical and control problems that affect a battery energy storage system. The successful candidate will also have a solid grasp of the problem-solving, root cause analysis, teamwork, and communication best practices required to achieve success within a global organization.

As a Lead Systems Engineer (Sustaining), you will:

·        Develop a holistic view of the product and lead initiatives that contribute to a multi-disciplinary approach to optimize product performance.

·        Solve difficult electrical and control problems that affect a battery energy storage system.

·        Fully own key initiatives as the leader of small teams of engineers and other stakeholders. Success will require disciplined root cause analysis/8D problem solving, cross-functional teamwork and collaboration, and effective written and verbal communication.

·        Provide written and verbal reports to leadership. These communications must demonstrate a drive to achieve ambitious goals with speed. Engagement with leadership and key stakeholders will be essential for obtaining the necessary feedback to deliver a solution that is aligned with business objectives.

·        Prepare change requests, technical bulletins, and design documents as necessary to enact product changes in the factory and updates to the equipment in the field.

·        Complete battery energy storage system (BESS) project site visits to increase technical knowledge, develop insights for further project improvements, and demonstrate support for the project teams.

·        Lead in the preparation and execution of tests of BESS systems, to include visits to Fluence lab facilities in Germany, India, and the USA.

·        Recommend new initiatives to optimize product performance based on observations, insights, and discussions with Fluence colleagues.

·        As a senior engineer, contribute to the mentorship of Fluence colleagues. Participate in building a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement. Foster an environment where engineers are excited about their careers through professional development, coaching, mentorship, facilitating peer support, and utilizing external educational resources.

Qualifications

·        Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering or Electrical Engineering, with at least 10 years experience in battery energy storage, the electric power industry, or similar experience with complex industrial electrical systems.

·        Technical experience: You have a solid understanding the electrical, control, and systems principles of a grid-scale battery energy storage system. Alternatively, you have significant technical experience and understanding of power systems such that you are able to quickly develop an expertise in energy storage.

·        Technical leadership: You geek out and can go deep on technical strategy and concepts, and have experience solving difficult technical problems. You embrace a philosophy of continuous learning and professional development.

·        You are a natural problem solver. You embrace the concepts of proper root cause analysis and 8D problem solving. You understand the importance of quickly implementing a containment or corrective action, and you also recognize the importance of following-through to implement preventative actions.

·        High-level execution and teamwork: You are able to cultivate collaborative cross-functional relationships to drive a team to success. You seek input from respected colleagues. You are results-oriented and you are not afraid to change course when necessary.
