Job Summary:
Flynn is seeking an attorney with 2-5 years’ experience in the construction industry to join our dynamic team as Legal Counsel. Based in Flynn’s Kansas City, Missouri office, the Legal Counsel position is a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in a team environment and be a valued partner in Flynn’s expanding North American operations. Reporting to the Flynn’s Senior Counsel, US Operations, the Legal Counsel’s primary responsibilities are to support Flynn’s operations in the following areas:
Contract Negotiation and Drafting
Reviewing and negotiating prime, partner and subcontract agreements for a full range of public and private commercial construction projects
Risk Management
Offering practical legal advice to Flynn’s operational teams and shared services partners on matters such as risk mitigation, contract disputes, insurance, liens and collections, and compliance
Legal Support
Assisting the business on other legal issues as needed, including drafting and responding to legal correspondence, working with human resources on labor and employment matters, and directing external counsel in resolving disputes and claims
Qualifications
Member in good standing of the Missouri Bar or ability to gain admission as an in-house counsel
2-5 years’ experience in construction law as in-house counsel or at a firm. Experience with employment law is also desirable
Self-motivated problem solver with ability to work independently
Strong interest in the business and construction industry
A track record in contract drafting, with attention to detail, accuracy, and scope
Ability to provide proactive, business-oriented advice to effectively analyze and mitigate risk
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to partner with others at all levels of the organization
