At Freedom Solar, we have built a customer-focused, turnkey solar installation experience that is unusual in the industry. Unlike most solar companies, we serve our customers through the entirety of their solar journey, from marketing and sales, to installation, to service and warranty coverage. More specifically, we are seeking an experienced, energetic, and hands-on Corporate Safety Director to manage the company’s Health and Safety program. Reporting to the company’s President, the successful candidate will take the leading role in ensuring safety excellence across our residential, commercial, and service businesses by building upon the existing foundations, processes, and technical innovations, expanding our safety training curriculum, and improving our ability to track and report on safety and health metrics. For exceptional candidates, we will consider the title of Vice President, Corporate Safety.


Some Aspects of the Role:
  • Serve as a safety and training subject matter expert for operational and executive leadership. 
  • Oversee the company’s safety training program and support requests from the field. 
  • Manage a team of safety professionals who serve our Residential, Commercial, and Service businesses. 
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety and health laws, regulations, codes, and rules. 
  • Maintain accurate records and data logs regarding safety and health incidents, and ensure prompt reporting of such incidents in compliance with the law. 
  • Oversee the safety, training, and electrical licensing logs and the production of required weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual dashboards. 
  • Develop lessons learned and corrective actions, ensuring outstanding items are completed in a timely manner. 
  • Ensure field weekly safety meeting topics are developed and documentation and logs are maintained. 
  • Develop, review, edit, and continuously improve safety training documents, curriculum, and reports. 
  • Ensure local operations and safety teams use proper injury case management, drug and alcohol tests are conducted, and incidents are properly investigated and documented. 
  • Ensure worker’s compensation claims are properly filed, corporate and field teams work with adjusters to ensure appropriate employee care, retrieve supporting documentation from medical providers, and coordinate return to work and restricted duty protocols with local ops and safety teams. 
  • Implement a framework for continuous safety-related learning and improvement.
  • Oversee the company’s Fleet team to ensure safe and effective vehicle operations. 
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned.


Experience We’re Looking For:
  • 7+ years of safety, training, and workers’ compensation administration experience, ideally in construction and/or energy industries. 
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) credential is preferred. 
  • Experience in, or at least a willingness and passion to learn about, the renewable energy industry.
  • BA or BS from an accredited US college or university. 


Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. 
  • Working knowledge of all federal, state, and local safety regulations (including OSHA regulations and reporting requirements).
  • Computer skills, including the Microsoft Office suite. (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and get dirty in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Self-motivated and able to work without close supervision. 
  • Alignment with the company’s mission and core values.
