ABOUT THE ROLE


The Director of Membership focuses on the success of state Future Caucus chapters and the Congressional Future Caucus in building cross-partisan relationships, enacting effective legislation, and showcasing effective governance.  They will be responsible for co-creating and overseeing the implementation of a state-by-state strategy for Future Caucus chapter impact, including recruiting new lawmakers, tracking engagement among lawmakers involved, implementing a membership model for the organization, and connecting Future Caucus members to internal capacity-building resources.  They report directly to the Chief Strategy and Public Affairs Officer.

The individual in this role will oversee a team that will recruit and retain state and federal legislative members of Future Caucus and equip Future Caucus co-chairs to lead their chapters effectively.  The Director will serve as a liaison between legislators and other Future Caucus departments and staff.

The ideal candidate brings experience in relationship-building and strategic leadership, with a focus on fostering collaboration and empowering others to succeed. They are innovative and solutions-oriented, with the ability to design and execute strategies that enhance member engagement and strengthen Future Caucus chapters. Strong organizational skills, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for working with Republican and Democratic leadership in equal measure are essential. Experience in managing teams, working within legislative or membership-based organizations, and developing scalable programs will ensure success in this role.

Future Caucus has an audacious mission: activate young leaders to bridge the partisan divide and build a more functional democracy. Future Caucus is a national, nonpartisan organization dedicated to supporting the next generation of elected leaders. We provide the resources, networking, and capacity-building opportunities for these policymakers to forge productive partnerships on critical national issues. 

In 2013, Future Caucus organized the nation’s first and only caucus for young members of Congress, the Congressional Future Caucus, to build coalitions on future-oriented challenges. Future Caucus also scaled this model into 34 state legislatures, each with a Future Caucus consisting of young, high-potential legislators, and now engages more than 1,800 young legislators nationwide. RESPONSIBILITIES

Project & People Management

  • Mentor and develop a team of direct reports, managing work allocations and projects
  • Organize workflows across the team, setting goals and deadlines and managing others toward them to align with the organization’s vision and priorities
  • Strengthen data, evaluation, and accountability systems to build a culture of results-based leadership
  • Lead Membership Team in CRM adoption and adherence
  • In coordination with the Public Affairs and Policy teams, develop CRM strategies to track, document, and centralize Future Caucus legislator touchpoints

Member Recruitment

  • Define strategy for member recruitment, working closely with the Senior Director of Community to define the most effective aspects of our community to use in recruitment efforts
  • Execute member recruitment efforts alongside Membership Team and Future Caucus co-chairs, tracking toward goals and adjusting plans as necessary
  • Plan and executes individual state convenings, meetings, and visits

Program/Chapter Management

  • Manage structure and strategy for chapter development, advancing engagement in chapters
  • Lead launches of new Future Caucus chapters, developing and maturing key relationships until the chapters are fully established
  • Manage the annual flow of events among active Future Caucus chapters
  • Track success stories, testimonials, case studies, and other quantitative data points from Future Caucus activities, celebrating and recognizing achievements big and small
  • Publicize and connect legislators to Future Caucus programs and services
  • Oversee a sustainable State Future Caucus model, achieving milestones for legislator engagement, event participation, and relationship building
  • Support team to help State Future Caucus co-chairs create and implement robust engagement and programming plans for each State Future Caucus
  • Work with CEO and CSPAO to recruit and retain Congressional Future Caucus (CFC) chairs, and create a regular calendar of programming and engagement for federal legislative members and their staffs. Possibility to work with a government affairs firm in DC to achieve congressional goals

ABOUT YOU

  • 5-7 years of relevant experience; at least 2 years of prior people management experience with a track record of mentoring and developing a team
  • Proven track record of working directly with state or federal elected leaders through campaigns, legislative roles, lobbying, or similar capacities; candidates without such experience will not be considered
  • Familiarity with state and federal legislative processes and the ability to build relationships with lawmakers
  • Experience designing and implementing recruitment and engagement strategies aligned with organizational goals
  • Proven ability to build partnerships, deliver presentations, and connect with diverse stakeholders
  • Familiarity with Quorum or similar legislative tracking and CRM platforms is strongly preferred

LOCATION
Future Caucus is currently in a hybrid work environment, candidates must be located in the Washington, D.C. metro area, or be willing to relocate.

COMPENSATION
The starting salary range for this position is $88,000 - $101,500. Highly competitive benefits are provided, including transit stipend, 401(k) with employer contributions, generous vacation policy, professional development stipend, and comprehensive health benefits.
