Product Design Team Lead | Garmin Connect Team

We are a global company with offices in the US, Europe and Asia. In these centers, we carry out the various stages of product development, from initial concept to mass production of ready-to-sell units. As a Product Design Team Lead working in our office in Cluj, you will lead a team that works on Garmin Connect, the fitness and wellness application that millions of Garmin customers rely on.

Garmin Connect Mobile is our best known, Fitness and Outdoor power-house companion app catering to over 20 million active users and supporting an ever-growing number of compatible Garmin devices (around 150 at this point). The feature set is very rich and targets our complex user base with running, cycling, wellness, training, smartwatch, golfing, diving, and even pregnancy tracking feature.

From this role, you will:

  • Be involved in every aspect of our product design process
  • Coach your team on best practices to ensuring we are delivering exceptional user experiences for our customers
  • Work closely with associates from various departments to implement the vision of your team

We believe that collaboration leads to the best ideas, and we rely heavily on team interaction. As a hybrid role based in Cluj-Napoca, this position will require at least 3 days in the office each week.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direct the activities of a UX team
  • Identify and communicate team resource needs
  • Recruit, hire and coach a Product Design team and ensure they are empowered to deliver best-in-class UX
  • Define and maintain design processes and ensure design quality across a wide range of products
  • Ensure team output adheres to established guidelines for design, usability and accessibility best practices
  • Coach UX associates through research, strategy, design, project scoping and collaboration processes
  • Build a thriving culture where designers grow in their careers and feel a strong sense of belonging
  • Provide meaningful personal development plans for associates and conduct annual performance reviews
  • Establish strong relationships across department teams that build trust and a shared understanding of department objectives
  • Collaborate with other department leaders to identify opportunities that provide growth for the department
  • Experience demonstrating leadership aptitude and abilities while working in a relevant role such as UX Designer/Product Designer
  • Advanced knowledge of design principles, usability principles, user interface design best practices and design thinking processes
  • Proficient in UX software tools such as Figma and Sketch, as well as interactive prototyping tools
  • Portfolio of UX-focused work samples that demonstrate direct contributions and/or direction for a team
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast paced and changing environment with minimal supervision
  • Superior creative and organizational skills with keen attention to detail and quality
  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills- the ability to communicate complex interaction concepts clearly across different audiences and varying levels of the organization
  • Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
  • Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 8 years relevant experience
  • Proficiency in English
