We are seeking a Project Engineer to join our team supporting the Los Alamos National Laboratory! This position is full-time and will be based out of Los Alamos, New Mexico.
Responsibilities
Supervise the engineering activity (all disciplines) on a project, or designated portions of a project, for a global business unit.
Plan and direct engineering assignments on the project.
Demonstrate technical responsibilities for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating these assignments.
Manage engineering design efforts, which may be performed by internal and/or external engineering design teams.
Manage design reviews and assure comments are implemented by facilitating the resolution of comments and ensure delivery of the design product.
Develop scoping and design phases.
Plan, forecast, and identify necessary engineering resources to support project workload requirements.
Review project engineering progress against approved schedules and budgets; evaluating changes; and taking corrective action when required.
Apply Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS), performance reporting, and variance analysis.
Work with the integrated project team to assure scope, requirements tracking, safety in design, etc. are correctly implemented.
Plan and forecast project engineering staffing needs.
Review engineering progress against approved schedules and budgets; evaluate variances and develop corrective action when needed.
Adhere to and enforce the policies, programs, procedures, and practices with the requirements of the LANL Conduct of Engineering program.
Mentor junior project engineers and provide oversight of their work.
Participate in process improvement initiatives.
Requirements
Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and 8+ years of relevant experience
Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work
Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed
Must have an awareness of NRC or DOE/NNSA nuclear facilities or projects.
Must have experience working with design and construction contracts.
Desired Skills
Current registration with a recognized state licensing board, like an Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE).
Advanced degree in an engineering or technical field.
Familiarity with DOE standards and Orders, e.g., DOE O 413.3b, DOE-STD-1189, DOE-STD-1066, etc.
Current or previous experience as a certified Control Account Manager (CAM) under the Earned Value Management System (EVMS).
Current or previous experience working as a Subcontract Technical Representative (STR) for a design contract.
Experience developing engineering schedules using tools such as MS Project or Oracle P6.

The NNSA's Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), located in Los Alamos, New Mexico, is a design laboratory responsible for the safety and reliability of the nuclear explosives package in nuclear weapons.
