An overview of this role
We’re looking for an experienced Product Manager to shape the vision and drive the strategy for accelerating where & how software is created. As the Product Manager for the Code Creation group at GitLab, you will play a pivotal role in identifying opportunities to expand & mature our platform’s capabilities for creating better software faster. One of the most exciting applications for generative AI is its use in software development and code generation, and you’ll be at the forefront of it.
With responsibility for our Code Suggestions category, you will make full use of your experience and insights to understand the paradigm shift that organizations are going through, and how generative AI is opening up new use cases and ways of working. In addition to understanding where it can be applied in current software development tooling, you will also be thinking broadly to push the boundaries of what non-developers can achieve using natural language. You will contribute directly to the value prop of our flagship GitLab Duo offering, and help enhance our existing platform used by millions of users across the world.
What you’ll do
- Combine your deep technical understanding of what the technology is capable of, as well as its limitations, to define the product strategy for Code Creation
- Work closely with internal development, technical field, marketing, and other product teams continuing to mature Code Suggestions
- Work to understand where our models are weak, where they are strong, and how they need to get better
- Make prioritization decisions and drive the strategy that connects our Code Creation investments to customer outcomes and business results
- Keep the group’s direction up to date with our high-level roadmap
- Work with customers, users, and other GitLab teams to make feature proposals enticing and actionable
- Coordinate with internal teams and external partners on opportunities for incorporating new technologies, LLMs, and enhancement techniques
What you’ll bring
- At least 5 years of product management experience, understanding customer needs, and launching successful products
- At least 2 years product management experience guiding the work of teams building ML models, AI-powered features, and/or related products
- Strong technical background and understanding from working hands-on with LLMs or other AI technologies, either as a PM, an ML engineer, or as a data scientist
- Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional team in a large Product organization
- Experience building products within enterprise SaaS and/or self-hosted software platforms
- Understanding of DevSecOps principles and best practices
About the team
Code Creation is a new team in GitLab, focused on enabling developers to achieve efficiency in their workflow using generative AI. The team is currently focused on growing & enhancing GitLab’s Code Suggestions capability, and its supporting features. The full scope of this group will include exploring ways to improve or automate code creation tasks of all types. The goal is to streamline development and interactions, to reduce context switching and improve quality, when creating code with GitLab.
