Individual Markets and Group Benefits External Communications Lead
Position Summary
As the Individual Markets and Group Benefits External Communications Lead, you will develop and execute integrated communications strategies to support the objectives of Guardian’s two major lines of business. Reporting to the Head of External Communications, you will serve as an advisor to the business on communications-related issues and advance external visibility through media relations strategy, executive thought leadership, storytelling, planning, and execution. You will represent the businesses to prepare for and carry out issues and crises communications.

You have
At least 10 years of relevant experience in external communications and media relations
Ability to develop strategy and execute across communication channels
Strong storytelling experience and proven ability to write for a variety of audiences
Crisis and issues management experience
Experience in the Insurance/Financial Services industry or other highly regulated industry
Understanding of modern communications approaches and experience building effective executive thought leadership programs
You will
Lead development and execution of external communications strategies in support of Individual Markets and Group Benefits objectives, working collaboratively with Enterprise Communications and Marketing colleagues
Serve as liaison to reporters on media relations supporting the businesses. Build and strengthen key reporter relationships, staying current on relevant news outlets, and industry coverage and trends
Represent the businesses on the Crisis Communications Working Group. Proactively maintain and update processes and protocols for cascading communications through the business and to key stakeholders in crisis situations.
Lead development and coordination of launch strategies and materials, including press releases, pitches, talking points, key messages, and reporting, working collaboratively with agency and internal partners
Assist in the preparation of leaders and spokespeople for media and speaking engagements through facilitating media training and developing briefing documents
Implement executive thought leadership strategies in coordination with Head of Owned Channels and Communications Business Partners.
All other responsibilities as defined by the Head of External Communications.
Reporting Relationships
As our Individual Markets and Group Benefits External Communications Lead, you will report to our Head of External Communications who reports to our Chief Marketing and Communications Officer.
Location
Hybrid- in office 2-3 days a week. The primary location for this position is New York, New York, or Holmdel, New Jersey.

10% travel required for this position

Salary Range
$124,480.00 - $231,180.00
The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
