Inpatient Unit Clerk

Summary:

Note: We have multiple openings for Inpatient Unit Clerks here at Michigan Medicine. Some of the openings are 24-hours per week while others are 32-hours per week. There are overtime hours as well.

There are multiple shifts available, which are as follows:

• Day shift: 7:15am – 3:45pm
• Mid shift: 11:30am – 8pm
• Evening shift: 3:30pm – Midnight
• Night shift: 11:30pm – 7:30am

The positions will be in various units within the University of Michigan Hospital system such as the main University hospital, Childrens & Womens hospital, etc.

Responsibilities:

• Admit, transfer and discharge patients on one or more inpatient units.
• Process physician's orders, and referrals.
• Record and coordinate patient appointments and tests.
• Procure supplies, equipment and services for patients.
• Receive and assist patients, visitors and staff.
• Maintain census information.
• Assist in the training of unit clerks, and orient staff to new policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications:

• Customer service experience necessary
• Demonstrated interpersonal and problem solving skills
• Multitasking ability essential
• Ability to work with many details with accuracy
• Data entry or computer experience necessary

Desired Qualifications:

• Previous experience as an inpatient clerk in a medical setting
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Knowledge of Hospital policies and procedures

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.54 - $17.50 per hour

Experience:

• Customer service: 1 year (Required)
• Data entry: 1 year (Required)
• Computer skills: 1 year (Required)
• Medical terminology: 1 year (Preferred)
