Provides assistance to the library media specialist for library functions, including assisting with instructional lessons with students, performing routine clerical duties, locating and checking out materials for students and staff and assisting other staff in the performance of similar or related duties. Tasks performed are specific and recurring; work procedures are covered by oral or written instructions.

Physical Demands:
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear, understand speech and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly at normal levels indoors and on the telephone. Physical agility to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, reach overhead and move up to 50 lbs unassisted.
Work Environment:
The employee regularly works in a school library. The employee may be exposed to mold and dust. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
Some knowledge of library procedures and filing systems. Some knowledge of and interest in children’s literature. Some knowledge of and skill in using audiovisual equipment, office equipment and computers and/or the ability to learn the use of equipment quickly with some training. Demonstrated ability to read, alphabetize, file, type and perform basic clerical tasks and to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimum supervision. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, parents and the public. Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions.
High School diploma, training, or experience sufficient to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
