Intelligence Analyst(s)
RAND is seeking highly motivated intelligence analysts who would like to use their technical and domain expertise to directly impact government biosecurity policy to prevent future pandemics and other biological catastrophes.
Intelligence analysts in Biosecurity conduct qualitative and quantitative research to produce actionable policy recommendations for the White House, intelligence community, defense department and other arms of the government and industry. They contribute to multidisciplinary project teams to analyze biosecurity problems where the technical details matter.
Intelligence analysts share and uphold RAND’s values to high-quality, rigorous analysis and objectivity, which has secured RAND's reputation for excellence and attracts studies that often pose novel challenges in analysis, modeling, research design, and computing. Analysts apply their skills in novel and flexible ways to emerging problems at the cutting edge of their fields and apply their insights to critical policy issues.
Responsibilities:
Intelligence analysts will use their practical knowledge and experience, coupled with their technical and methodological skills to:
Search for, explore, evaluate, and analyze large-scale data sources (both manually and using automated tools)
Develop assessments that are directly relevant to national security
Collaborate closely with a range of technical and intelligence professionals
Drive priorities for broader intelligence-gathering efforts based on conclusions from real-time sources
Qualifications
All research positions at RAND require excellent analytic skills; the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both orally and in writing; the ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team; and possess a strong commitment to RAND's core values of quality and objectivity. In addition, successful applicants will have:
Strong ability to incorporate qualitative information into a holistic picture
Ability to work with standard and proprietary intelligence tools and web tools
Proactive, independent, able to drive priorities and learn new tools
Ability to write scripts in Python or similar scripting language preferred
Experience with open-source intelligence gathering / analysis preferred
Ability to teach relevant tools and methodologies to others preferred
Education Requirements
Master's or equivalent experience
Experience
At least 2 years relevant, full-time professional work experience as an intelligence analyst, intelligence officer, or similar experience
Experience in US intelligence community preferred, but not required
Security Clearance
Active TS/SCI clearance, or must be able to obtain and maintain TS/SCI clearance
Location
Washington DC; Santa Monica, CA; Pittsburgh, PA; or Boston, MA. Open to full time remote.
Salary Range
Analyst II: $62,500 - $81,250
Analyst III: $78,400 - $107,800
Analyst IV: $88,500 - $128,250
Hiring ranges for Technical and Quantitative Analysts are slightly higher than the ranges shown.
RAND considers a variety of factors when formulating an offer, including but not limited to, the specific role and associated responsibilities; a candidate’s work experience, education/training, skills, expertise; and internal equity. Successful candidates will be offered employment in a specific title, as determined by the candidate's education and experience. The salary range includes base pay plus RAND’s sabbatic pay (which provides additional compensation above base pay when vacation is taken). In addition, RAND provides strong benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, paid time-off and more.
